Who's got it and what do you think of it? What is there in the way of competition?
I’m already hearing chatter that 2011 will be for cable TV what 2001 was for the music industry —the year the party ended.
~~~~~~~~~~
They will still have cable modems and internet service for a few more years. eventually, the cellphone companies will have faster service and lower rates and then the cable companies won’t even have that.
I’ve had fun recommending older movies to my son and his wife. I’ll come across a streaming movie and think...boy that was a good one, so I make a list and email it to them (they use Netflix too.)
My favorite part though is the old TV series. As someone else mentioned, they have all the Dr. Who series, and I’ve gone back and watched the Tom Baker seasons. Also I’m a bit of a sci-fi fan, so the X-File seasons, Battlestar Gallactica, or Firefly can keep me entertained.
And we really like the British produced TV shows, and they have a lot of them on the streaming side. MI5, as I mentioned is a great series...the British seem to do a good job w/their series. Anybody that’s a Jane Austen fan...stream Lost in Austen, very cute British miniseries.
Pshaw! They have Quincy M.E. and Kojak...mmmm mmmm mmm! hahaha!
Not only can we get discs by mail but also watch instantly on our TV or our computers.
The "instant view" is somewhat limited (probably not for many people but as we find very little to like in most recent movies,) we are able to watch both TV shows but also Classics, British Masterpiece features and many, many other shows.
I seem to recall the the Television category was sub-categorized into different genre.
I just turned on my PS3, clicked on the Netflix icon and was told an upgrade needed to occur. After the completion of the "upgrade", the listings under TV are no longer sub-categorized, instead, there are only 2 rows of titles for Television....New Arrivals and Television and I scroll from left to right to see the titles.
I liked it the other way better.
I saw a poster mention that they were watching Dark Shadows.
I don't see that show in the television titles that are listed.
I could only bring it up thru the search function.
They have Forbidden Planet now? cool! great old Sci-Fi.
...Oh drat! i thought you meant streaming.
And on the sci-fi side, Quantum Leap, Sliders, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Red Dwarf...and for the guys, Xena, LOL.
I could only bring it up thru the search function.
Seems there's still some bugs to work out to make it more user-friendly. Lots of titles are only found through the search function. And I've already had to upgrade twice through my PS3 but I'm thankful I don't have to run that disc every time I want to watch Netflix anymore.
I have it. I love it. I’ve been a subscriber since it started up. Go for it.
Amazon - you can choose to pay for just a movie not having to pay a monthly fee. Movies run about 2-3$ each. Several times I had a rough connection that they picked up on and refunded my money even though I saw no problem.
I think we all need to just throw down and admit—Netflix is the cats meow! :p
I am a fan of MI-% too~! :) hets a little heavy on the angst at times but I watch afew episodes from time to time. I think the thing that surprises me the most, is the way they have no problem tossing what one gets to think of as run of the show characters under the proverbial bus, as it were. Three that I can think of so far...not counting the CIA babe and the old GF with the daughter.
I just hope I can watch them all before Netflix pulls them like they did with Ads Time Goes By. (Not that I haven’t seen them all, but I liked watching them during dinner or before sleep.)
I refuse to do business with Netflix because some time ago their CEO was one of those idiots who said the rich should pay more taxes. Up his. Damned if I will put any of my shekels in his purse. So I went with Blockbuster and have been relatively satisfied with their service.
I liked watching them during dinner or before sleep
hahahaha! The Mr works nights so my sleep is a bit screwy—I do admit when I know I need sleep like crazy....I put on a sub-title flick and soon I am in sleep lala-land!
When I used to go the the Movie rental store for weekend movies, I’d spend more than I do for a month of Netflix each weekend.
Since I have dial-up, streaming is not an option for me. They did have “Forbidden Planet” and it is even better than I remembered it. They also had the fairly rare “The Edge of the World” which was named best foreign film back around 1930 or so.
To my disappointment they did not have “Invasion of the Saucer Men” that sort of surprised me as it is one of the better ones, at least from my 50 year old memory.
It’s great on the iPad. I’ve streamed a LOT on it since October.
Speaking iof Reccomendations: Since you like BritFlix and seem to like mysteries. Netflix is streaming the ‘A Touch of Frost’ detective movies. You might want to give them a try.
Heh... for what they charge??? how could you lose?
Nothing I’ve seen can come close to beating netflix.
Used to watch Hulu a lot, but they are now severely limiting what you can watch for free.
We don’t have cable tv anymore... goin on almost 2 years now without it. STILL don’t miss it a bit (except for fox news)
Money VERY well spent for me.
