Brandy Proclaims She Is on 'Team Bristol,' Slams Kathy Griffin and Howard Stern 'Fat' Jokes

After it was revealed that Bristol Palin made it through to the finals of “Dancing With the Stars” late last year, shock jock radio host Howard Stern went on quite the rampage, announcing that she “is the first contestant in the history of the hit ABC show to get fatter as the show goes on,” and that she “must be eating everything in sight."

Comedienne Kathy Griffin also jumped on the Palin “fat” attack while hosting VH1’s “Salute to the Troops” last month, mocking the 20-year-old for gaining “30 pounds per week” during the show and referring to her as the obese “white Precious.”

Amused? Well, one person who certainly wasn’t laughing was Palin’s dancing competitor, Brandy Norwood.

“It offends me (when I hear people talking about Bristol’s weight like that.) and sometimes the media can be a little harsh on celebrities and forget that they’re people just like everyone else,” Norwood told FOX411’s Pop Tarts while promoting the second season of her VH1 reality show “Brandy and Ray J: Family Business,” which explores the personal and professional challenges the siblings face as they expand their personal and professional empires. “She shouldn’t be treated unfairly. I’m ‘Team Bristol.’ You won’t ever catch me saying anything negative about Bristol.”

Despite Norwood’s critical appraisal for her dancing skills and stream of high scores, she was beaten for a coveted spot in the “DWTS” finals by Palin. However, there are certainly no hard feelings and Norwood isn’t echoing the public outcry that Palin didn’t deserve such success simply because the judges weren’t giving her the numbers....

So many here bashed Brandy on these DWTS threads. Hopefully this will guilt some of them and show that she is not the horrible person they previously thought. To praise a Palin should increase her popularity here by a million percent.

To be honest I didn’t even know who Brandy was. One thing I noted was that when they were down to the final four they were all on the Larry King Show (oddly Larry did not ask Bristol what she thought of Sarah Palin like he does so many geusts). King asked all of the contestents who they hope wins if they don’t and everyone answered the questions except for Brandy. I thought that was odd and a bit selfish. Its nice to hear her take a stand for Bristol here. She probably gains nothing from her fan base by doing that so I give credit to her.

I'm happy to say that I wasn't one of them! While I was very happy to see Bristol advance, I also felt bad for Brandy. She's showing a lot of class and the dirt bags like Griffin and Stern could take a few lessons in class from Brandy.

Brandy has class. God bless her for refusing to demonize her competitor. It takes a morally strong person to do that, likely knowing she'll take the heat for saying it. Brandy should have been in the top three - no question about it IMHO. Is there anyone alive besides Joan Rivers who cares what Kathy Griffith says?

I have no idea of whom you speak. I read he OP and it is like you are stating the names of Martians... I have no idea who ANY of these people are, other than Bristol and Sarah...

I remember Brandy on the very first show going over to Bristol and holding her hand to I think comfort her because Bristol was really nervous, real class on her part and no one else did anything like that the first night!

If I didn’t have a daughter who was the right age when Brandy was a Disney kid... I wouldn’t have a clue either.... but I do and Brandy is a talented young woman and obviously has shown some class (a true phenomenon in Hollywoodland) by admonishing the “over eager destroy them at all odds press” re: Bristol Palin.
