Lead Poisoning of children ads by EPA

Have you seen the every night and every day ads of the empty orange juice pitcher being filled up with golden fluid.... and then it is identified as being "lead in paint"?

This "government paid for" ad states that 1 million people in the WORLD are affected (not just the US). Well, We, the Taypayers are paying for this AD!..... although it specifically says "in the WORLD". Last time I checked, we were not a UN NATION, but still AMERICA!

I'm so sick of seeing government ads which we are paying for and advertising for "worldwide" problems? Give me a break?!

Anytime I see anything advertised, including AARP (which sold out to obamaCare) which is NOW advertising that they are selling everything from End of Life Insurance to Life insurance! Now, I am also seeing other government sponsored ads. Seems the government is the only entity left to pay for advertising (also known as PROPAGANDA), with OUR money!

We SHOULD NOT be paying for these lies!

Our parents grew up with lead paint all around them. It wasn’t a problem. Of course they didn’t eat paint chips or chew on the window sills.

Kind of like the old anti-Pot ads from 50+ years ago... scare tactics.

Even with Chinese junk being the norm, kids today are generally exposed to a LOT less Lead than most adults on FreeRepublic.

Yet the gubmint must still be in everyone’s business...

Funny how it seems that more and more kids are showing up with many of the so-called “disabilities” that use to be credited to lead...

AMEN! I Never lived in a house in my life that was built before 1970 until I was old!

these are scare tactics using OUR money... that is what makes me mad! They can do what they please if they were not spening taxpaymer money!

The EPA lead laws just tightened up big time a couple of months ago - most handymen and contractors can’t touch much in a pre-70’s house without first being “newly” lead certified.

I suspect that what’s going on is the development of new, more intensive, testing methods which pick up parts per TRILLION instead of the prior test which picked up parts per MILLION. NOW, there’s a new opportunity for liberal groups to scream bloody murder that they need lots more of Joe 6 pack’s money to protect the chilluns.

Same old libs, same old scam, nothing new here folks.

obamanation regime at it’s worst: target the people who work in order to sQueeze the money out ‘em.

this is so obvious that I hope everyone who works in contracting finds out!

most of the “lead” is in other countries, but, we, the working Americans are paying for it..... as usual in the obamanation administration!

IMHO, it is another excuse to steal our (the working people) money!

They better already know about the new licensing - if caught there's @$10K fine for working on a property without taking the class or the measures the classes go over. You can't even touch your house as a landlord...only the actual homeowner living on the property can disturb paint or items near paint without a fine.

Fun-Fun-Fun

It’s an insane over-reach. Lead paint is simply not a serious risk. I doubt that it ever was. I don’t recall ever being tempted to chew on windowsills as a child, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any child do that.

I’m sorry - I was wrong about the fine - it’s not $10K - I was mistaken....

http://contractormag.com/news/lead-certification-2345/

This new program will allow contractors to help reduce childhood lead poisoning by working lead-safe. Contractors who fail to comply will risk penalties of up to $37,500 per day as well as potential private lawsuits.

My father and my uncle, both of whom lived well into their 80s, molded and made lead toy soldiers when they were kids. They would melt the lead, pour it into the casting, and let it cool in the shape of soldiers. They would then paint them.

No sign of problems with them. We all know that lead is a poison when ingested in certain quantities. We also know, or used to know, that those quantities are seldom met as long as people are careful. It doesn’t take the hyper-regulation of the elitist morons in Washington to keep people safe. They just have to know about the hazard and take precautions.

Yep. The new rules (for pre 1979 built) are onerous and the penalties will crush a small company. Something like $37,500 for each infraction.

Already seeing customers blackmail contractors after a completed project with threats to file a complaint unless contractor cuts price.

The new regs have doubled the cost to install windows around here (DC metro).

I won't take any projects that might fall under the new rules and none of the small contractors I know will either. Worse than the asbestos or mold regs. Just crazy.

Here in MD all contractors MUST be lead paint certified which means they have to attend a 1 to 5 day course on the precautions required and the clean up and post job testing. The classes cost $400 - $900 per person around here.

I took the class in Baltimore and of the 20 attendees, 16 were unemployed and their training was paid for by the city to try and help these folks become more employable.

It’s real bad, pre-1978 housing improvements will now come to a screeching halt...how many people will be able to afford work on their houses and how many contractors aren’t already cutting their prices to the bare bone to get work?

And now they have more Gov’t costs piled onto the cost of the job plus the extra time/steps to do the jobs.

DIY landlords can’t DIY anymore without certification training.

A relatives kid had high levels of lead on a blood test - they were renovating - the cure? Take an iron supplement vitamin = Solved...don’t forget your Flintstones...

Lead level cutoff was lowered years ago - it used to be 30micrograms/deciliter, it changed to 10 in 1991.

It’s like Cholesterol levels - don’t forget to take your lipitor.......all of you...aargh!

After 19 years as a small painting contractor, the new regulations from the EPA will probably end my business this year. Customers in this area cannot afford the new high prices. The EPA laws keep changing and we are not notified of the changes. The new regulations are not safe (plastic under ladders is asking for a fall) and the whole thing stinks. Every contractor is extorted out of $300 or pay a $37,500 fine. My only hope is for the EPA to be put out of business before they put me out of business.

IIRC, the original study that claimed that inner city kids were chewing on paint chips was exposed as a fraud.
