The beehive, a melding of ratted-up hair and hairspray that would maintain its shape for a week between beauty parlor appointments, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010, embraced by celebrities as diverse as cartoon mom Marge Simpson and singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.

And this year, its creator, Elmhurst retiree Margaret Vinci Heldt, 92, is being honored for her creation, which she said was inspired by a little black velvet fez-style cap with two beaded decorations that look like bees.

today, the style which lasts for weeks between trips to beauty parlor is dreadlocks and or hair weaving, makes this one look very innocent.

The first time the beehive was presented for the public to see was on Elsa Lanchanster in the 1936 film "Frankenstein." During the 1950s it was Britain that started the roll on the beehive and it was Dusty Springfield that wore this style for the first time. The fad caught on and came to the U.S. and Canada... and the world hasn't been the same since.

Dreads? I’d call that the ‘antfarm’ hairdo. Which would be dreadful, especially if it were stocked with fire ants.

I would bet the farm that they all harbor creatures, i.e., lice.. etc because they are nothing but yarn, rope, trash...things that don’t get washed and that brings their own hosts to inhabit the head.

I don’t know what that is, but it isn’t dredlocks.

Whatever it is, it looks like the hair was kept in a garbage bag with something ... organic. And it’s growing mold.

Normal dreadlocks is to that seen below what a spontaneous and transient instance of lust is to a 72-hr case of priapism.
