The path toward obesity starts at a young age - even before babies transition to a solid diet, according to a new study.

Almost one-third of 9-month-olds are obese or overweight, as are 34 percent of 2-year-olds, according to the research, which looked at a nationally representative sample of children born in 2001. The study is one of the first to measure weight in the same group of very young children over time, said lead researcher Brian Moss, a sociologist at Wayne State University in Detroit. The results showed that starting out heavy puts kids on a trajectory to stay that way.

"If you were overweight at nine months old, it really kind of sets the stage for you to remain overweight at two years," Moss told LiveScience.

Tracking obesity

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has tripled over the last three decades. In 2008, 19.6 percent of kids between the ages of 6 and 11 were obese.

Exactly. They take our children away and our right to parent and then fill parents heads with lies that will harm their children.....but make them easier to manage. The only people that I see standing up to them are Christians. The rest buy into the drek.

Oh for pete’s sake, nine month old babies put on fat just before they walk. The walking and activity will slim them out to elegant three year olds/

Some extra weight at that age provides a reserve against illness or injury--something for the body to work with. "Low birth weight" used to be bad, as was the absence of baby fat.

Why measure against two year olds, why not four? (Because 2-4 is where kids really get active, sometimes distressingly so, and are likely to burn that fat off).

Was this so called ‘study’ put together by the same ‘people’ that laid claim to saying “Michael Jordan was FAT when he was in his prime”?

When they get to the ridiculous etc, they lose all credibility and become laughable.

Man made formulas are to blame along with ignorant moms that stick bottles into squawking mouths every 2 hrs. Try a little water in between feedings. Dump the formulas for 1% cows milk at 6 months.
