Campbell's Soup Rant (angry vanity)
Me | Jan1, 2011 | DJMacWoW

Posted on 01/01/2011 10:36:34 AM PST by DJ MacWoW

My husband bought me some of my favorite soup, Campbell's Cream of Potato. My mouth got all ready and I sipped the first spoon. I spit it back in the bowl. It tasted TERRIBLE! I thought it was spoiled. Nope. Now! With Sea Salt Added! If I wanted sea salt I'd go float in the ocean!

I just discovered that they've done the same to Vegetarian Vegetable. No more Campbell's soup for me. And I wrote them to tell them where they can stick their sea salt! I don't buy Healthy Choice soups because they taste awful. So they are now going to force their idea of healthy on consumers? The left is taking over everything and forcing their ideas on us. I'm really angry. They stick their nose in every aspect of our lives.

I guess I'll just have to make my own.

I assume ALL soup to be gluten-laden!

BTW, McDonald's frenchfries are always OK ~ and apparently so are their hashbrowns ~ instead of using flour to make 'em fuzzy they gently grate them making them fluff up.

What isn't safe are:

the ketchup

the pickles

the buns

the honey mustard sauce

some new stuff identified on their latest very extensive accounting for what is in their food.

The ketchup and pickle thing means NONE of the regular hamburgers are edible, but the Angus burgers are but you have to remove the pickles. Eat your frenchfries plain.

I guess I'll just have to make my own.

Still Thinking's Potato Soup

4-5 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed in ½” pieces
3 quarts milk
8 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
8 green onions
1 lb bacon, cut crosswise to ½” pieces
2 oz butter
2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper

Boil potatoes in water 15 minutes. Drain and allow to steam. Mash ¾ of potatoes, add to milk, and warm over high heat. Brown bacon and remove from grease. Sauté green onions in the grease about 5 minutes, adding some of the butter if needed for moisture. Add crushed garlic and cook 15-30 seconds, then add onions, garlic, bacon and grease, butter, salt & pepper to milk mixture. Simmer till potatoes break down and thicken mixture (about 1 hour). Thicken with 1 TBSP cornstarch if necessary. Add rest of potatoes, simmer another 10-15 minutes, serve.

(With the garlic, has more of a French flavor. Leave out the garlic for more of a traditional American potato soup taste.)

What a shame that you’d rather complain than read the excellent recipes posted and enjoy some of the humor. Have a nice day!

Good for you! I, along with many here, like this thread, especially the " excellent recipes posted and enjoy some of the humor" parts.
The heck with people who can't see that.

RE: “What a shame that you’d rather complain...”

Oh, the irony of that statement.

Yes, my family enjoyed the home cooking and all now have families of their own. Both boys do the cooking for their families, 1 daughter cooks for her family and another daughter and family eats out mostly although she knows how to cook. Thank you for such kind words. I am returning them because they apply to YOU also.

ahhh, you have the true spirit of combining ingredients of your own to make homemade memories. Your family is very blessed and lucky as they know what has been prepared took time and was done with love with those loving hands. :)

OMG, I thought they used HEINZ, and I thought that Heinz Ketchup is gluten-free.

I know that the french fries are supposed to be gluten-free -- perhaps I have reacted to their KETCHUP.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Also, I had no idea that the hash browns were gluten free.

According to what I read a few months ago, SWANSON'S CHICKEN BROTH is now gluten-free.... but I am chicken to even try it, and besides.... isn't Swanson's owned by Campbells?

We have 5 halal butchers within walking distance of my home. They all provide excellent products and are widely known throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

A couple of things keep them in business for both their Moslem and no-Moslem customers ~ (1) LOWER PRICES, (2) MORE USEFUL SMALL CUTS and, of course (3) A load of restaurant customers to keep up the volume and keep the product on hand fresher.

My problem with them is they do not sell pork, and I can't stand the odor of non-vacuum sealed raw sheep meat. So if I buy something there like a fresh plucked chicken, or beef ribs it's a quick in and out.

They also sell goat meat ~ and someday we might try that with a Jamaican jerk recipe we have on hand. It stinks too but the odor goes away after cooking it a couple of hours outdoors.

What those stupid jerks don’t get is that people still have salt shakers and they know how to use them!

For now, comrade. For now.

The ketchup has a 'filler" in it these days that's more robust than what they had been using ~ I would imagine they had some shelf life trouble and swapped out rice flour for wheat flour.

There's also this ingredient called "artificial beef flavor" ~ it's OK for the Hindus but it's made out of wheat.

They stick that in their packets ~ which is where the problem arises.

The big ketchup vending thing in the stores where you squeeze on a handle to pump it out also has the flavor stuff in it so I'm not eating any more McDonald's ketchup of any kind until they verify that any of it is gluten free again. Right now their own sites says stuff with that flavor enhancer is not OK.

Also, they put the same flavor enhancer in the sauce on the pork ribs.

Amen! Chicken & Stars was my favorite. They turned it into a “kid’s” soup and dropped the sodium content. They must have done something else to it, because even if I add salt, it just doesn’t taste right.

There’s a bunch of soups that they quit making. There was one that had hamburger (or what they CALLED hamburger) with noodles but the noodles were different sizes. We used to put ketchup in it. Loved it.
