New and Improved can really mean cheaper to produce. Yup. But we pay the same.
The one that gets me is when you used to get a pound of something, all the sudden, its in a 14.5 oz box.
Yes. And they are doing that with everything. We're starting to buy more of one item too.

I'll never knowingly purchase anything by them. The problem is so many name companies are owned by bigger names we never see.

Sea salt....the new Cilantro. Gag!
Nuff said ;^)
To: The Cajun
It’s a labeling ploy, designed to ride the “natural” and “organic” schtick.
I would bet that for every person that actually went to a commune and ate acorns in the 60’s, there are FIVE THOUSAND MOMS out there now who buy only “organic” “vegan” “additive free” “no preservative” food for their little rug rats.
Remember, when it comes to sales and advertising, if you boost sales by one or two percent, that’s a successful campaign.

Sea salt doesn’t have THAT much of a different taste from regular table salt. I don’t know why the soup would have tasted that much different, except for the possibility that they reduced the salt amount, as well as using Sea Salt instead. I don’t usually eat canned soup, except the Healthy Choice, or Low Sodium kinds, because there is so dang much salt in the regular stuff!

Progresso USED to have bacon in their lentil soup. They took it out. Hubby makes an excellent lentil WITH bacon. Yum! Think of any food. Now think of that food with bacon added. Everything is better with bacon!

I'd read the ingredients of the print wasn't so small. It sure looked bigger a few years ago. ;-)
Hubby says that it says MSG, potassium chloride and high fructose corn syrup.

To: rabidralph
But I would think there would be the original label Campbells soup that has the normal sodium in it. Why not buy that instead? They don't offer it. I even checked their website.

Soon they'll be back with classic Campbells. Of course it will taste different. You're probably right but I won't buy it.

The one that gets me is when you used to get a pound of something, all the sudden, its in a 14.5 oz box.It may have been out there for a while but I just noticed that with chocolate chips when I was baking this Christmas. The regular bag of chocolate chips called for in most recipes is 12 oz. You'd think the big double bag of chips would be 24 oz., right? Nope. It's now 23 oz. An ounce to the customer might not seem like a lot but we're being cheated while Toll House and Nestle are making a bundle what with every 25th bag being a 100% profit increase for them.

At the risk of getting rocks thrown at me also, sea salt makes things taste different and I don't like it. Plus I find it has some type of weird aftertaste. Hubby says it leaves a sugary after taste. He just finished off my soup. He's not a fan either.

I am simply stating that there is some sort of grand idea that the Government Bureaucrats know more than we do about what we eat...how many billions is MO getting spent on school meal programs so the children can have healthy food...and that parents dont know how to properly feed their children, they need Government As may be and probably so.
But what does this have to do with Campbell's soup?
How do we know they didn't just get a helluva deal on twenty container loads of sea salt?
Just because salt is something the government wants to regulate does not mean it is doing so in this case.

There used to be bacon chunks in Progresso’s Lentil soup. It’s now called “Vegetarian Lentil”.

OMC, your vanity post is closing in on the 200 mark. Sea Salt is really a hot topic, evidently. ;) I know! Isn't it a hoot! :-D

We cannot acquire the off-shore oil, but the libs have no problem with acquiring the off shore salt. We need someone to make sea-salt an environmental issue -then, NO MORE SEA-SALT!!!
To: Yaelle
Thank you, Yaelle. We do make our own Lentil. I just wanted a taste of something that Grandpa and I ate once in awhile. I was simply shocked at the soup now being PC. And tasting like drek.
