“sharing whiskey with Gramps out of an emptied jelly jar” What happened to the bottle or glasses? Did the whiskey suddenly appear in the jelly jar? Was he too cheap that he was afraid his friend would down the whole bottle in one swig? This sounds totally taken out of some Grapes of Wrath storyline, with two bums sippin’ moonshine out of a discarded jar they found in some railroad hobo jungle. What a load of crap, but nothing new from the liar in chief.
Actually, for many people, drinking out of jars was common.
However, Frank M. Davis had money, through his wife. He could afford real cups and glasses.
I still say FMD might be the real “Father”
It’s the “emptied jelly jar” that just sounds so stupid, as though to say “jelly jar” would make people wonder how they put whiskey in it if it was full of jelly so Ayers had to be overly specific and write “emptied” because if he said “empty jelly jar” someone would say that it couldn’t be empty if it had whiskey in it. He could have said “the two drank whiskey from a jelly jar.” Even then we have to wonder what the point was. Was it the whiskey? Was it the container? Was it the sharing? Was he trying to hint at moonshine whiskey in a mason jar? Were both the “emptied jelly jar” and “whiskey” metaphores?
