SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- Billy the Kid, the Old West outlaw who killed at least three lawmen and tried to cut a deal from jail with territorial authorities, won't be pardoned, Gov. Bill Richardson said Friday.
The prospect of a pardon for the notorious frontier figure nearly 130 years after his death drew international attention to New Mexico, centering on whether Billy the Kid had been promised a pardon from New Mexico's territorial governor in return for testimony in killings he had witnessed.

No pardon! Not unless they plan to pardon every other old west desparado.
Billy the Kid: Looks sort of crazy to me.
Maybe if he were wearing a real cowboy hat, instead of that ugly topper he's got on in the photo, he wouldn't look quite to retarded.
Old West outlaw William Bonney, aka Billy the Kid, was famously shot by Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, New Mexico on July 14, 1881. He was buried in the Old Fort Sumner Cemetery alongside Tom OFolliard and Charlie Bowdre, two members of the Kids gang, who had both been killed by Garretts posse in 1880. The Kids individual grave marker, which wasnt placed until 1940, has been stolen and recovered twice. It is presently in shackles inside an iron cage.
That picture of the Kid needs to be flopped to be correct. In the original you can see the loading gate on the left side of the Winchester whereas it should be on the right side. The original photot is reveresed.
That’s a mirror image of the original tintype. He really wasn’t left-handed.
Wow....that NM governor really knows how to make those tough calls.........like Billy gives a shitte....
Most historians today go with the theory that the Kid’s name was really Henry McCarty, born in New York City. “Bonney” was an alias. His mother later married a William Antrim and he also was called “Kid Antrim”. He only became known as “Billy the Kid” after his exploits in New Mexico became widely known. Henry McCarty was born in Manhattan on November 20, 1859. Henry and his older brother Joe, born in 1854, were both illegitimate. Their father was Edward McCarty, a married man with two daughters and a son in Brooklyn. Although Henry had a short life, his brother Joe lived to be 76 years old. Henry grew up to use the names Henry Atrim, William Bonney, and Billy the Kid. According to the New York police "Michael" Henry McCarty was a delinquent as a small boy.
He was actually considered fairly good looking...at least by the senoritas of the day. He had a friendly personality, liked to dance, and attended bailas whenever possible. Instead of visiting Pete Maxwell in his home the night he was killed, he may well have been visiting Pete’s sister, Paulita. A story persists that he was killed in her bedroom instead of Pete’s...
You’re right about the “topper”. He was usually known to wear a wide-brimmed Mexican style sombrero. This photo likely doesn’t do him justice.
good.
