Businessweek: Verizon iPhone to be announced by Valentine’s Day
BGR ^ | 12/30/2010 | Zach Epstein

Posted on 12/30/2010 10:17:53 AM PST by Keith in Iowa

According to a report from Bloomberg Businessweek on Wednesday, Apple will hold a special event by Valentine’s Day to introduce a new iPhone compatible with the Verizon Wireless network. The report mirrors one of two theories posed by BGR Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Geller earlier this month. Businessweek goes on to suggest that while the launch of an iPhone for Verizon Wireless could have a sizable impact on AT&T’s business, it will not be the “death blow” many have speculated. Even if AT&T loses as many as 6 million subscribers as a result of Verizon’s iPhone launch, Businessweek postulates, the lost revenue will only amount to 4.8% of the carrier’s projected 2011 sales.

I make my living supporting BlackBerry devices, but the minute Verizon launches an iPhone, I am porting over from my T-Mobile BB. Verizon now supports 4G(or 3.5G) network here in Cincinnati.

“I?ll be replacing a BB Tour. Damn scroll-ball”

I’ve had my bad days with the ball. I just bought enough online at $2 a piece to easily replace them. I just like my buttons. I’ve played with an iphone and find it a pain in the ass to type or navigate. Probably a comfort zone thing. My texts look like I’m retarded on an iphone. FR is awsome on my b-berry also.

Given the timeline on my contract, I’ll probably be giving up my disappointing Android phone for an iPhone 5 late next year.

Every time my Motorola Droid apps unexpectedly quit I get a screen to report the failure. I always add the text “Android sucks”...and it does. It will be an iPhone on the Verizon network for me in the spring...FINALLY!!

Oh, so their phones have sim card slots? I had no idea... All of us travel... so sim cards are a must. I wonder why they’ve never switched over to them?

The newer model Verizon BlackBerry Devices have sim slots for GSM, not sure about regular cell phones. For our company, Verizon was US only until about two years ago. They have roaming partners all over the world now.

Verizon has a number of what they call “global” phones - that are quad band radio devices... and can be used abroad on GSM systems. Verizon has some international plan options as well.

The iPhone almost certainly won't. Apple likes to wait for the network to settle in a bit; they didn't support 3G in the first-gen phone in 2007, but added it in 2008.

AppleInsider has a buttload of interesting stuff (usually filled with 90 percent minutaie, IMHO); besides this, USB for iPad, CDMA, etc.
