RIP
Somewhat related — last I knew, Sophie Scholl’s sister Elisabeth was still alive. She married Sophie’s boyfriend (who had served on the Eastern front).
It’s hard to believe that some of these good folk are still with us. Sadly, more and more are passing on.

Georg Ritter von Trapp was a pioneer submarine commander in the Austro-Hungarian navy. His first wife was Agathe Whitehead, granddaughter of Robert Whitehead, the inventor of the torpedo.

My favorite line is when Capt. Von Trapp tells the local collaborator that Von Trapp expected the quisling to be first in line to greet the Anslusch. The weasel says, “you flatter me”. To which Von Trapp responds, “I meant to accuse you.”

Certainly puts into perspective how close we are in time to the carnage and madness of the 1930s and 40s...

I certainly can relate to Captain von Trapp. I strongly resent my own country being taken over by these hideous socialist thugs. Every time I see Sound of Music, I relate to Captain von Trapp. We’re going through the same BS here.

Why do the good die so young. She had a full life ahead of her.

Dumbest (and perhaps most historically inaccurate) movie ever.

I have NEVER heard anyone say anything negative about the movie ever. I am not complaining or anything but that was shocking. lol. I happen to like the movie. I believe it was made in Hollywood which would mean fiction.

**A Member of the Austro-Hungarian Navy**
Thanks for that clarification. I couldn’t figure out how Austria had a navy. I thought Austria was land locked.

Good night Irene...did you really think they did it for historical accuracy? Come on now...its a movie BASED on events. My wife traveled the whole area there and got the accurate version from the folks in Austria and did not go out of her way to be offended at a production that I dare say was one of the best. I can think of a whole lot more present day garbage to apply your label to. Platoon, The Patriot (though i loved it), anything from Michael Moore and Al Gore, and more.

He was an honourable man, a patriot, and a great Naval Officer. It is no wonder that the National Socialists wanted him ... and he wanted no part of them and their madness.

Christopher Plummer did an interview on NPR last year and told how he hated being in that movie. He considered the whole movie to be too maudlin and sentimental with no real acting in it. Kind of a let down when I heard it.
