Thanks for that clarification. I couldn’t figure out how Austria had a navy. I thought Austria was land locked.
The Austrian Empire held Venice from 1797 until 1866. Afterwards, the Austro-Hungarian Empire still had Trieste and Fiume.
And let's not forget that the Hapsburgs were rulers of Austria, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Holy Roman Emperors in the 16th century. Don Juan of Austria, the illegitimate son of Charles V/Carlos I, lead the Holy League at the Battle of Lepanto.


I have a soft spot for the Hapsburgs. Members of my father's family served lesser Hapsburgs. A few of them didn't live long enough to die in the Holocaust. They were summarily killed after the Aunchluss for mocking the Nazis and the syphilitic expatriate Hitler in particular.
