I’ve tried this show a few times and I really find it quite insufferable. The only character I like is that gal from the ad agency, who strives (and succeeds, I think) to be “more that just a secretary”.

I don’t know why people are so crazy about it, it just always seems so gloomy and self-conscious.

However, I am curious about why he did this? Have there been any repercussions? What about his own identity/family?

Or is this one of those things that TV writers come up with to make things interesting at the start and then are stuck with as the series goes on?
