Extreme Heartburn Vanity. Possible Pepcid Complete Recall?

Posted on 12/26/2010 1:00:57 AM PST by BigBlueJon

Hello. It's early in the morning, or late at night for those of us who usually work nights. After a weekend of unhealthy and unusual eating, I have just consumed the second to the last Pepcid Complete, Walgreen's brand, in our home. The last one will be fought over between my wife and I at a later to be determined time and place. Being a sensitive husband, I may at least share half with my wife.

Yesterday, while we were visiting family out of town, my wife went to the store to get the usual supply of Pepcid Complete, either name brand or generic. She checked two local pharmacies and two local chain stores. Not a bottle in sight. In traveling back to our home from our out of town visit late last night, we tried one last attempt at our local Walgreen's Pharmacy. No more Pepcid Complete. Frustrated, we asked the local pharmacist if he could help us. To his knowledge, there shouldn't be a problem and it should be on the shelf. We walked together to examine and verified that neither the name brand or store brand was shelved nor labeled as missing. It was simply gone. The pharmacist had no explanation.

After checking online, it appears that Johnson & Johnson Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Company has had a few bad marks against their production, as well as a "small" recall due to faulty packaging. There is no new information to be found at this time. The recall of Pepcid Complete by itself shouldn't be that strange. However, the complete and total disappearance of not only the name brand, but every other generic brand from every other store both large and small is very strange.

With all that is going in the world today, this is small beans. However...if my wife does not find a refill of chewable berry flavored Pepcid Complete, or the like, the end result may be disastrous for all.

Inquiring minds would like to know...

When Rolaids spells relief, it spells out “P E P C I D.”

It is not good to rely on pills or over the counter stuff.

Swill a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of warm water if you can not drink milk.

I use the regualar pepcid (generic) not the complete, last time I bought it was about 6 weeks ago, so don't know if our stores still have it or not! That will freak me out too, if I cannot find it!

I hadn't heard anything about a recall.

True...we actually do try a lot of alternate methods for relief. It’s by no means a daily product that we take, but when it’s dire, it works and it works fast.

Slow release pills, caplets, etc. work over time. Pepcid Complete and its generic relatives, works every time, all of the time and at that very moment in time.

Thanks for the info. I had actually read that very link before posting, but just like some of the replies, not a lot of definitive info.

It just seems very sudden for every bottle, of every similar label to just vanish without reasonable explanation of even a nightly news blurb.

Whew... I have two large-size plastic bottles of Pepcid Complete on the shelf above my computer. I bought them within the past three months. I will be duplicating your check of local store shelves tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up.

Why the product was pulled;

Factory shut-down, contaminates (wood, metal) found in products.

FDA uncovers more problems at J&J Fort Washington plant
(Reuters) - U.S. inspectors are still uncovering a host of problems at a Johnson & Johnson manufacturing plant that was the source of a major recall of dozens of popular children’s medications earlier this year.

Get a bottle of alfalfa tabs and take 6 or so when your problems acts up but take 2 or 3 any number of times during the day until the problems subsides. It is worth a try and it often really helps. I know people who have come back from very bad stomach problems taking alfalfa. If you can tolerate milk it seems to work well with milk also.

Alfalfa, I think, absorbs excess stomach acid and is full of micro nutrients that supply the stomach tissue with necessary nutrition to aid in healing. It also is an alkalizer and tends to help the ph level become normal in the digestive tract.

Here are 2 web pagex that talks about the benefits of alfalfa.

I have found that individual people desire the consumption of particular items that bring on these issues; To a point where some may well beat your a$$ over a hunk of cheesecake, or bag of frittos; rather than abstain due to a greater wisdom (been there, done that).

Obtaining the immediate cure is usually more a pain than explaining the inevitable cause before the fact.

I call it being married. My wife calls it You got drunk, and that is why I ate the whole pecan pie... And the m&m.s and that small thing that used to be our pet...

Lots for sale at ebay. Curious. I was too cheap to use the pepcid complete though it works well.
Walmart sells the generic zantac, $4.00 for 65 150 mg tablets as part of their $4.00/month prescriptions. I ruined my stomach when I hurt my back with nonsteroidals.

I used to use Zantac as I, too, had terrible heartburn.

Then I read an article on sugars and refined carbohydrates. Our stomachs produce excess acid to digest those foodstuffs as they are so alkaline. This leads to acid reflex and indigestion.

The solution is simple. Eat half a raw apple in the evening. It eliminates heartburn and is good for you. Something about the enzymes in raw food is good for our digestion.

Anyway, it works for me, is plentiful in local stores and doesn't cost all that much!
