Yesterday we had a thread about favorite Christmas albums, so today I thought I would post one to ask everybody: What are the WORST Christmas songs ever recorded?
Dolly and I planned it that way. We're both living in your head rent free... ;0)
Merry Christmas!
I was kind of joking. BUT, if you start thinking “Is this a date-rape song?”, and then read all the lyrics without thinking about the song itself, you’ll see how easily it can be seen as such. Complete with a roofie in her drink.
>>This is Christmas, War is Over, by John Lennon
The actual title being Happy Xmas (War Is Over); my alternate lyrics:
War is over
‘Cause we WON
WE have WON it
Now....
But check out the version on YouTube which came out in 1968: Canned Heat and Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas Boogie.
It starts with the ‘monks singing their song but then Bob “The Bear” Hite jumps in: “Hold it, hold it, what are you mice doing here? This is OUR session”
Hite’s band leaps into a rock-i-fied John Lee Hooker groove
“Do the Christmas boogie!”
The Liberty label had both acts. In fact the success of
The Chipmunk song helped save the label from going under.
The Chipmunks’ names came from 3 Liberty execs: Al Bennett
(IIRC), Si Waronker, and Theodore “Ted” Keep. Waronker’s
son Lenny later became a producer.
