LOS ANGELES – A storm pounding California with record rain and heavy snow spawned minor flooding, mudslides, small evacuations and road closures Monday, but forecasters warned that the bad weather's worst impact may be yet to come.

Virtually the entire state was affected, from coastal cities to the Central Valley, Sierra Nevada and southern deserts. Rainfall records fell, numerous traffic accidents snarled roads, trees tumbled and even some horse races had to be canceled.

Some locations in Southern California received more than 12 inches of rain,..

The storm was expected to intensify Tuesday night and Wednesday, with between five and 10 more inches.

Yeah, I’m right on the Inyo-Mono county line. Gusty winds today, with ridge gust winds up to 80 mph. The June Lake Loop is closed due to an avalanche and the snow just keeps on coming. Chain controls on Hwy 395 from just north of Bishop (Sherwin Grade) all the way to about Carson City, NV; 160 miles of chain controls.

Over 10ft of snow in the central Sierras above 7000ft before this is over.

Some say as much as 12-15ft.

With just normal snowfall for the rest of the year, the idea that we could have a real Pineapple Express late Feb or March is spooky.

I live near the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers...and if the levee breaks would probably have to climb on my roof to stay dry:)

"trying hard to het the Hetch Hetchy torn down"

I caught some of the prettiest fish I ever saw at the backside of Hetch Hetchy...Brown Trout between 2 and 4 lbs. Even accidentally caught a Golden Trout in one of the streams that feed it...not too much damage from the barbless hook and I THINK it survived.

I moved back to Sac from Puyallup 3 years ago...and the weather is still better despite this storm:)

With 10 feet already, I’d say 15 feet of snow here in the High Sierra is very likely within a day or two.

On the SF Peninsula and Stockton were getting a goodly amount, but not too much at one time, so drains and runoff are working OK. Some low roads are flooded for short periods of time.

My First Wife wants to know what is the home page for that link. She also wants to know why you weren’t posting hysterically when Humboldt County had the 100 year flood in 1955 and then you totally abandoned us during the 1,000 year flood of 1964 and never posted once...

It’s gone from drizzle at 1:00 to a steady light rain at 2:30 here in Vegas. I suspect le deluge is not quite here yet.
