I have not posted a vanity for awhile now and I post this in good faith. I was thinking earlier about what the politcal lands would look like with Sarah Palin not in the next Presidential race.
I don't think it would be good.
I think she has a duty to run unless family reasons dictate otherwise. I hope and pray that she is not buying the media narritive that she is unelectable. I know she is a very smart person. But I hope she has more confidence than to give any thought to the idea that she might not be able to win. Any candidate might not be able to win. But you don't know until you try.
Other than family and personal reason. What are political reasons she shouldn't run in your opinion ?
I think the reason she should is short and simple. This country needs her and we are running out of time.
If she doesn,t run. I don't think I could stomach politics and I doubt I ever vote again. At one time I dreamed of serving in congress as a kid. But if we are a country where the media can destroy my politcal career and hurt my family. Why in the hell would I do it.
I am saying that Sarah Palin represents all of us underdogs and regular people. It would be demoralizing to the tea party and conservatives if 1. she doesnt run.. or 2. she lets the media define her image.
the stakes are too high for politics as usual.. I honestly feel like these are life or death moments for our country.
how would someone else with the same positions on the same issues saying the same things with the same charisma be any more electable than Palin ?
the media will try to drive their unfavoribles up too
There are so many people showing concern about Palin, but I wonder how many of them realize they have been manipulated into thinking that way.
Remember earljam, the retread paid Romneybot who got the zot for the second time for expressing his concern over Palin’s qualifications. He was here precisely to stir people to believe the very things these concern bots crow about.
In all likelihood a few of them are plants like him who come here to influence others. The others are the manipulated. They may even imagine that they are thinking for themselves, but the truth is there is no other reason to be discouraging her from running. If she is everything they pretend, it won’t matter. She won’t win anyway. But they cannot seem to stop themselves.
To be attacking her at this point, either they are intentionally trying to poison things or they are one of those who have been affected by the poison. It’s just becoming too obvious. The manipulators think they are too slick and we are too stupid, but like earljam, they will be found out. It’s just amazing how some people who consider themselves to be intelligent have been so easily manipulated.
Just asking...
Hmmmm, I've not read anyone on this thread attacking Gov. Palin, other posters, yes, but not Gov. Palin.
Also, IIRC, the OP posted the following:
Other than family and personal reason. What are political reasons she shouldn't run in your opinion ?
Unless I'm reading it wrong, he's requesting opinions. People disagree with the OP and have said so. If expressing an honest opinion is attacking, then Palin supporters might want to consider not asking for them.
In fact, it seems your post contains quite a few attacks, calling those who disagree with you plants, or dupes. Rather than attacking the posters themselves, why not engage in a discussion of the issues?
i dont know why exactly.. but im so demoralized about the future of our country right now. i just have this impending feeling of doom.
I guess you missed the earljam situation. There are people on this site who have come here specifically to “discourage” people from supporting Palin. I did not accuse all those who dislike Palin of being plants. In fact, some are doing the discouraging and others have been duped into following along with them.
Let’s allow every conservative who wants to run, try it. Then let the best one win. You can’t tell who that is before anyone is even running. So people who make a habit of doing the “discouraging” obviously have an agenda and it’s not to have the best conservative win. It is just unfortunate that others have been caught up in their web.
God is still good, and still in control. This great nation was founded by godly men who understood the importance of seeking His will. With ridiculous moves like the Oklahoma bank being forced to remove all Christmas decorations that could be interpreted as religious, I think the time’s near when the pendulum will start swinging the other way. Christians have been push-overs for decades and we’re finally now seeing where it’s gotten us.
We may go through tough times, but America has withstood difficult times before. It’s easy for us to look back on hard times in history and forget that in the midst of WWII we had no idea whether or not we would win. We can look back on those times now with a certain pride, and maybe even fondness, but those who lived through it remember it as a time of concern when it was a possibility that Hitler and Tojo would prevail.
I find that it’s easy to get overloaded on negative news and commentary. Rush has suggested before than when people start to feel hopeless and like all is lost, that they stop watching news programs. Let’s face it, news programs make money on holding people’s attention. Besides sex, what holds people’s attention is threats of danger and doom.
God holds our future in his hands. His will is good and perfect. No amount of worry will change what will happen tomorrow and, no matter what it is that does happen, God will still be in control.
[I]f my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14
I have a question or two for you.
Why was she popular with over 90% of the population of Alaska before she was picked to be on the national ticket?
What caused her popularity to drop?
Why do you believe that two years out, polling data is written in stone?
Wasn’t it just two years ago that Obama was elected and the Republican party was on the ropes?
I understand she has some issues to address, but I can’t understand people falling for the mainstream media narrative like you are. This is the same media that proclaimed Obama a leg tingle inducing messiah.
As for resigning the governorship, that single selfless act was truly an act of courage. She foiled their Alinksyite tactics and Alaska and her family (and actually the whole country)are better off for it, but there was no guarantee she would be successful after resigning.
She is lucky, as she has the truth on her side, so I don’t see her resignation as that big of a deal. It will take some explanation, but those of us who understand what she was facing and why she did it find it to be another reason to admire her. It’s hardly a negative to stand so firm on principles and selflessly sacrifice for a higher good.
In fact, it is refreshing to see in a modern politician.
You are confused about a few things regarding Sarah, and I hope you keep an open mind and follow the threads about her on Free Republic. Here’s a hint, if you find yourself parroting the mainstream media narrative, perhaps you should check yourself, it’s often wrong.
In fact, it seems your post contains quite a few attacks, calling those who disagree with you plants, or dupes.
Calling fellow FReepers dupes is insulting. Are you saying that you are so much smarter than those foolish dupes and you can see through something they cannot? Pray, tell what gives you this superior ability to detect such things which we lesser FReepers can't see? Sure, you have your ideas and theories -- and, good for you -- but please at least extend the courtesy to your fellow conservatives to respect their abilities to have theories and ideas that may not jive with yours without labeling them dupes or plants. Frankly such behaviour is the realm of those who have no real substance to their side of a disagreement and so resort to name calling and accusations.
I'll say it again, if the OP didn't want people to express reasons why people think Palin shouldn't run, then he shouldn't have asked people their opinions.
AFAIK, no one here has the ability to prevent anyone from running, so saying "[l]et's allow every conservative who wants to run, try it" is just ridiculous. And, again, if that's ones theory, then why ask people for their opinions on why she shouldn't run?
Dude, you and I have both been here a while. Neither of us is new to the manipulation that can and does go on in any forum of good size. Still, that's no reason to insult those who disagree with you.
Thank you. That was very nice to read. I needed to see that and be reminded of those things.
but it also scares me because if confirms that there are good christian people against Palin being President. I wanted to believe you all were just goddless liberals and RINOs that had no good sense..
and that worries me because I don’t know if any true conservative can be elected if someone with all of the charisma and heart Palin has cant.
“How are you even alive? If breathing required intelligence, you’d have suffocated by now. “
I laughed so hard I awakened the sleeping cat on my lap.
thanks for the laugh!
im not laughing
nonsense.
I seriously doubt your impression of yourself compared to Sarah....you talk like a liberal....
It ain’t about smarts, of which Sarah has more then enough, it’s about character and the ability to make decisions.
You see something different in Gov. Palin than I do.
you are not seriously saying that because you won on a TV game show you are smarter than Sarah? And living in Europe and having a Dad that worked for RR means nothing.
This is embarrassing....
you don’t see love for her country and charisma ?
I suppose I wouldn’t be laughing either, if that was directed at me. I’m glad it wasn’t. And I did not laugh because it was directed at you. I laughed bcuz it was a funny.
I meant no offense to you, nor do I agree or disagree with the sentiment. I don’t know you. It was a great zinger and made me laugh.
I have to choose my words carefully; it’s late and I don’t want to have my words crammed down my throat due to bad word choice — I don’t mean I expect you to do so, but someone else might.
Charisma is a tricky thing. It’s not necessarily good, nor is it necessarily bad. It just....is.
Love for her country? I think yes, but I’d have to say so reservedly. He words certainly proclaim it.
My hesitation, though, is with the old bugaboo of character. And, here’s where I need to be especially careful in word selection. There’s something in her...behaviour that’s troubling.
It started with the interview Gov. Palin did with Greta Van Susteren on Hallowe’en of 2008. The way Palin interacted with Piper — and, yes, this may seem like a small thing — was troubling. In a week or so, I’d talked myself out of it and decided I didn’t see what I thought. But, I went back and watched the interview again. It’s where Gov. Palin talks to Piper on her “concept of time,” and it’s definitely there. I did a quick look for a video of it on the web, but didn’t find one.
And, as I said earlier in the thread, then there was the whole perky Katie Couric incident. The way Gov. Palin handled Couric wasn’t stellar, but that can be put down to all sorts of things from being thrown into an antagonistic situation, to poor handlers/preparation, to a busy schedule and general being fed up with stupid questions she felt were designed to make her look stupid. Where I have a problem is with the way in which she looked back and described how she handled the whole thing with Couric asking about what Gov. Palin reads. Her demeanor during that second interview seems inappropriately defensive given that the interviewer (Van Susteren) was a friendly.
I’m a “watcher.” I notice physical cues, things in a person’s behaviour that don’t mesh. Barack Obama sets off alarms with his physical cues. Sarah Palin isn’t in the same class, but there are definite red flags.
I guess I don’t notice little things like that. I suspect the problem is Palin’s early interviews was an anxiety induced brain freeze. Think about it. This is a woman who had never been on national television more than a handfull of times and certainly not in the high pressure situation of a Presidential election. the whole word was watching.
She is getting better.
I don’t have enough information nor am I in the position to be critical of her parenting skills. Maybe she is a little different in some ways but that doesnt mean she has poor character.
