I am so sorry to hear that. Prayers for you and your family. I am assuming since you used the word “may”... you are waiting for that horrible phone call. I’ve been there (in fact last year) and it is a hard thing to go through.

Yes, but Dill was from Meridian. That’s why I thought of it. I always feel sorry for Dill.

It lasted about a week and a half. Very sloppy. Melt, refreeze, melt, refreeze. Elevation here is 2200’ msl, on top of the Cumberland plateau, but we’re on the west side and adiabatic lifting causes a lot of snow to be dumped on this side of the plateau. That same storm gave Chattanooga 22”, elevation 680’ msl. Keep in mind that 3 flakes blowing past a window causes a panic resulting in all grocery stores to be stripped of all milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper. I’ve seen -18F here several times and typically we will see -10F every January. We’ve had a real December this year, for sure. Can’t wait to see what January and Febu-ugly brings, although March is usually our snowiest month by far. The good part is I’ll be in Brazil for two weeks of Febu-ugly. Wee!

Thanks for the rest of the story.

Amazing, I actually found the Cumberland Plateau on a map.

It’s my grandmother’s sister-in-law. She passed away a few days ago, lived a good long life. I haven’t seen Aunt Geraldine in years but dad may want to avoid driving that far alone.

It is 47 and windy here today. I pulled a few turnips this week. We are really dry again, and the thread below is not good news.

Hi all from Nashville, TN. Cold here but at least no ice on the roads......
Hubby has been dropping LARGE hints that he would like a blue spruce tree. I don’t particularly care for them but would like to get him one anyway for Christmas. Saw some at the Home Depot-they were about 3 feet tall. Anyone have any experience with these types of trees? Do they grow ok in these parts? I have seen just a few around town and they seemed healthy and all. I’ve heard they are slow growers. Any thoughts/suggestions would be very welcome and appreciated.

My Mom’s family - centered over the line in Butler, Alabanga - always considered Meridian to be the “big city” of the area. It was from the little airport there that I took my first passenger jet flight in the 1960s....

Much rain is forecast to hit the Vast Bender Estate on Humboldt Bay today and through late next week but I think this storm is colder then the one moving through So Cal now. My gardening sanity is invested in my Garlic patch and a large tub of Carrots plus the beds of Red Oats and Bell Beans are at a perfect height right now. I only go out there to toss some birdseed on the ground for the Quail and Juncos and eat a fresh Carrot. I saw a Coopers Hawk chasing a Quail yesterday but the berry brambles offered cover...
