Emanuel's tenant, Robert Halpin, wanted $100,000 to move early and allow Emanuel back into his home during a run for mayor.
Levy said he was the one who first spoke to the Halpins about them leaving the home early, and that Emanuel did offer some compensation.
Levy said he passed the $100,000 figure to Emanuel, who called it "ridiculous." The counter offer was $5,000 a month for every month early the Halpins left, Levy said. The lease is set to expire in mid-2011.
The lawyer for the Halpins later indicated they would not be moving, Levy said.

How much money will Rahm spend defending his right to run for mayor? $250,000 to $500,000? Doh!
The entire extent of their understanding of money boils down to this: what's mine is mine and what's yours is a subject for negotiation.
Even worse is that he could have paid for it out of his campaign war chest.
It’s Chicago so something like that isn’t illegal or a violation of FEC rules.
So how did twinkle-toes get rich?
How many multi-millionaires have only ever held government jobs?
So rent an apartment for 6 months. He can’t manage his personal affairs and he thinks he’d be a good mayor?
The counter offer was $5,000 a month for every month early the Halpins left,
Or about $30,000. I’d take that deal in a heart beat. Wonder what the renter’s deal is?
And why is Rahm so desperate to get into the house. Looks decent enough but nothing all that special about it that I can see.
Mark my words, if anyone kills the dancers run for office it will be the tenant.
Under normal circumstances, anybody would.
But in this case, you have the opportunity to twist some evil bastard's balls in a media vice. Who could walk away from that for less than $100K?
Gadzooks, the liberal slime is bottomless.
Better question: How many politicians became multi-millionaires only after they were elected to office?
How much was the monthly rental of Rahm’s house?
I read yesterday it was $4,400/month
I hope they don’t let him run. He is counting on the machine to make it OK for him and he may be right, but it would serve him right for being cheap.
This is the funny part: He's one of those rich bankers Obama is always railing against. Even better, while Obama rails against the mortgage companies, Rahm was on the board of Freddie Mac during the scandal years!
I hate to be vindictive, but I do hope he is never elected or appointed to another job as long as he lives.
This reminds me of the article posted here on FR a few months back about what cheap tippers Hollywierd actors are (Babs Streisland, etc.).
These leftists are always generous with other people’s money but tighter than the bark on a tree with their own.
Rahm final understands what it’s like to be the screwEE!! That renter had better make sure his taxes are in order, just in case the IRS COINCIDENTALLY begins an investigation of, say, the past 30 years, demanding all RECEIPTS in TRIPLICATE!!!!
Simple: He hasn't lived in Chicago for a couple of years. What makes it worse are his attempts to retroactively re-attach himself to Chicago. In this case he wanted to kick out his renters so he could show he has owned a non-rented house in Chicago for the last year. He also amended his tax return, only changing the address to show him as a resident of Chicago. Somebody who knows he already has legal resident status doesn't do these things.
