Amen! An oil filled radiator is a much better alternative, but they heat up very slowly. Cheaper to operate and much, much safer.
Millions of people buy those each year and don’t burn anything. It is improper usage (usually the heater is left too close to a flammable object) that causes a fire.
We used to use them at work until our maint. director, at the request of the office building management, put out a notice that they were no longer allowed in the building. A week later he and his guys came thru and confiscated all that hadn't been removed.
And you're right, those things are dangerous. I'd never have one in my house......

I’ve been using several ceramic heaters to provide heat for my house for over 10 years. They are safer than central heat and cheaper too.
