Michael Vick(notes) wants another dog. He told this to NBC News in an interview set to air Wednesday:
"I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process.
"I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding. If I ever have the opportunity again I will never take it for granted. I miss having a dog right now. I wish I could. My daughters miss having one, and that's the hardest thing: telling them that we can't have one because of my actions."

That's my take on the situation as well.
It's always been a pet peeve of mine to see how ex-cons are treated in our society. It's no wonder that the recidivism rate is so high once they get out of jail. Despite the fact that they did their time, nobody seems to want to give them a fair shake.
Now I'm no bleeding heart - if a person is deemed unfit to live in society, than throw away the key and let them rot in prison for life. But if we are going to let the rest of them out at some point, I believe we are obliged to let them return to society with full rights. That means they should be able to vote, own guns, and do anything else a regular citizen can do. Otherwise, why let them out at all?

Im with you 100% too. I would ask, can anyone, point to a single bad thing he has done SINCE what happened? I can’t find any,,but he has been quietly doing a lot of anti-dogfighting appearances. Even the humane society recently remarked on it in a positive manner.

I’ll say this,, my mom is the biggest Dallas fan you’ve ever seen. And last Sunday she told me that she’s starting to think Vick is finlly acting right.
You would need to know my mom to understand the gravity of this statement.

Really? Since, obviously, you don't know me, you have a lot more substantiated information about Vic that you do me. His actions speaks volumes compared to the two or three lines of my post that you find "odd".
Second, you have no way of knowing if this is a "clear attempt at righting a serious wrong". At stake is not his ranking in the animal kingdom, but his fortune in his career. The guy said he wanted a dog; he's already had LOTS of dogs. What did he do with them? He proved himself already. Why does he need one more dog? That's like giving a child molester a pass to the playground to prove he loves kids. Of course he does; that's why he was arrested. I'd give Vic a pass if he never went near another dog in his life. That's the only way he could prove he cares about dogs is to make sure none were in his possession again.
The writer of the article of the article is a fan of his, and he agreed with you. Opined that it was a in the future for him, but still a bit too early to broach the topic.

Which in a big irony,, is precisely when you really need a dog. A dog stays loyal to the end.
Maybe Vick should start with a cat instead. It falls under the animal category.

BS 1: He fought the dogs, basically to the death. 2: If they didn’t die or didn’t fight well he killed them in extremely cruel ways. There isn’t any cure for these things as far as I know. He hasn’t had a come to Jesus moment. He’s had a contract come to me moment. I’m suprised he was ever let back in the league but then the what are we basically reflecting on at this site? The death of the species through a lack of any ethics, morals or sense.

Exactly, if it was just dog fighting, I would cut him a break, but it’s what he did to the losing dogs that will always make him a scumbag in my eyes.
