That’s nothing. I saw Woody Hayes punch out an opposing player for tackling one of his guys

Yes, I remember that incident, it was at a college bowl game during the 1970s and it basically ended his career. If I remember correct, Woody had a long history of “anger-management” issues.

Thats nothing. I saw Woody Hayes punch out an opposing player for tackling one of his guys The guy, Charlie Bauman of Clemson had just intercepted a pass and was bumped out of bounds into the OSU bench area. That's when Woody grabbed him and started punching. I'm sure Woody would have much rather been punching his own QB, Art Schlichter, but he wasn't within arms reach at that moment...

Actually, Woody cold cocked a Clemson player who had just made a game winning interception and was holding out the ball and taunting the OSU bench. Woody lost his job over the incident, but the player he hit later on admitted that that he deserved it and said all he remembers is some little old gray haired fat man walking up and ringing his bell with an upper cut to the jaw.
Not the best way to go out, but it was Classic Hayes.
