Yes, I remember that incident, it was at a college bowl game during the 1970s and it basically ended his career. If I remember correct, Woody had a long history of “anger-management” issues.

This reminds me of a college game where a player returned a kick-off for a touchdown. He was very close to the visitor’s sideline as he ran. One of the players who stuck out a foot in an effort to trip him was Don Meredith.

And Woody's incident killed Iowa State football. How's that?

Iowa State had been to two straight bowl games (back in the day when there were maybe 10 or so, and going to a bowl was a really big deal). Woody does his thing, and Ohio State hired away Iowa State's head coach Earle Bruce. And so began the long sad string of coaches at Iowa State. Things are looking up now though for the Cyclones! ISU Fight!
