However the best fruitcake I ever ate was that made by an elderly gentleman who lived across the street from my grandparents in FL. He was a widower who had a small pecan grove. He used his own pecans and made tons of cakes which he kept frozen to provide for any food worthy occasion. Funeral, wedding, new baby, whatever the event he brought a fruit cake.
I have the recipe somewhere but it is lots of work to make.
I have a British friend who makes me a small one every year for Christmas. I love marzipan.
Marzipan - always had some in my Christmas stocking when I was a kid.
Love that stuff. I’d like to find a recipe for it. I know it uses almond paste, whatever that is.
I am a frequent visitor to both bakeries. I love the Eilenberger apricot cakes, but still prefer Collin Street when it comes to fruitcakes.

My mom makes fruitcake that is really good.
It’s full of good ingredients, and soaked in liquor.
It’s the only fruitcake I’d ever eat.
Maybe you could find a recipe that has the ingredients you prefer. Try “www.foodnetwork.com”. Do a search of fruitcake, and read the many recipes, read the reviews of interesting recipes, and give one a try. I find the reviews to be helpful, so one doesn’t waste ingredients on a bad recipe. I also tend to try recipes that are from Paula Deen, Rachel Ray or Alton Brown.

I would trade the Cigs for the fruitcake (if I had to cause most of the time folks just didn’t want them) and I still think that C Rat fruitcake was the best.
