I need the help of some of you who are more well versed in math than I, especiaqlly percentages.
John sells a car to Ted for total of $2000.00. Included in the price is a 5% sales tax. What was the original sale price of the car before the tax was added.
If you could please show me the formula you used to arrive at your answer I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks
you are correct.
The price of the car was $1900. The 5% tax adds an additional $100 to the selling price to make the total price $2000.
I have reconsidered. Since the original was a compromise I have decided to change it some. Since the original question was about 5% I need to use 5% of .01. The new value is now 2,000 divided by .0005 which gives $4,000,000. So we have $3,998,000 in taxes, 2,000 for the car, and 2,000 for corruption.
It is only a stimulus and who cares about the deficit.
Here’s a great website for algebra help:
www.algebra.com
It covers just about everything in algebra and pre-algebra.
Ooops!! I’m wrong. Should have just kept quiet. :)
Mileage of auto/age of vehicle plus cost of loan over 28 days. However if cash use the subsection found on the last page of the contract. Take this number (less the 5% over the balance), well at this point you’ll need to use your fingers.

You forgot to divide by pie. You also forgot to co-sine for the 1 you borrowed.
I LOVE pie! Especially Rhubarb.
On the other hand, Pi is 3.1415927.
If I wanted Pi, I would have asked for Pi.
Now go draw me a Pi chart.
Twice! Remember, you told me that I was correct once.
Just playing around.
A while back, here in Illinois, the rats were pushing an income tax raise from 3% to 4%, trying to pass it off as only a 1% increase. Actually a 33 1/3% increase.
Oh pshaw! Plain Pythagorean poppycock.
Pie are round - corn bread are square.
Now, we're off on a tangent to boot.
Ha Ha!! :)
Saturday morning is much too early for me to be thinking about simple arithmetic, I guess. :)
