Cupcakes, once a delightful source of sugary indulgence, later a cliched trend much derided on blogs like this one, have sunk to a new low: racial controversy. A video for Duncan Hines' Amazing Glazes has angered viewers for its depiction of, uh, cupcakes in black face. Racist cupcakes? Facing criticism, Duncan Hines pulled the video from YouTube. But we managed to get a copy of the video, below. Judge for yourself:

It really is worth checking out the video. As one commenter noted, the music is not hip-hop; it's techno... but I guess racism is everywhere now a day; even in the lowly cupcake.
Wasn't it New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin who referred to N.O. as a Chocolate City?
what color would chocolate be other than brown?
seems ridiculous to me....
San Francisco Board of Supervisors bans all SF bakery sales of chocolate cupcakes including chocolate eclairs, as racist.
When I see cupcakes start to sprout faces and sing, it’s not racism that concerns me...
I thought they were adorable!
[and “black-face” always used -white- exaggerated lips...those little critters had pink lips...Gad, people are whiny]
-White- chocolate, which would be *really* racist, doncha know.
Flashbacks from your Woodstock days?
;-D
I’m making some. Then, as I eat them, I will be wiping out racism. One cupcake at a time.
gimme some sugar!
Something is dreadfully wrong with this country if complaints against these cupcakes are taken seriously.
What’s this world coming to when a bunch of creative-types at an ad agency can no longer smoke a little creeper and imagine some singing cupcakes?
When blacks and browns get as violently sensitive as Muslims do to similar stuff, we will have revolution and civil war.
that’s techno
Adorable.
Now get in mah belly!!!
Obama just said “Duncan Hines acted stupidly.” /sarc.
The hands making the cupcakes look like black hands.
It is not racist if black hands do it.
it’s certainly not the chocolate -—the chocolate is secondary, but joined to those big red lips it does create an unmistakable impression that ANYONE would recognize as the kinds of images one would see in something as ‘innocuous’ as Sunday Newspaper comics where blacks were portrayed that way. I had hundreds of them, bought for almost nothing at a yard sale 20 years ago, none later than 1912, and interspered among the regular color cartoons were things like “Joe of the “Musical Habit”, which made me cringe just to look at it. See, Joe was a butler in a wealthy white residence, and everytime he heard music he’d drop everything, couldn’t control his feet, and would dance all the way down the winding staircase, much to everyone’s amusement and consternation. Joe’s lips were about 20 times larger than any lips I;ve seen on a human being, but looked exactly like the cupcake adornments.
Actually, I just thought they were cute and sort of like talking frogs (because of the bulging eyes) or some silly cartoon character. The lips look the way lips drawn with icing look (thick, out of necessity), and the cupcakes are brown because the icing is chocolate, which is the flavor that people like.
