What can be said. She made him feel more like a King than the crown of a nation.

I am reminded of Diocletian, who broke up the Empire, appointed successors and retired. When the inevitable conflict, nepotism, corruption etc happened and an old friend wrote to him asking him to again take up the sword for the good of the Empire he wrote back to him that...

“if you could see the size and quality of the fruit I grow in my gardens with my own hand, you would speak to me no more of Empires.”

They thought he was nutzo! But who had the last laugh? She was probably a juicy little peach. ;)

"He said that the King simply wasn't sane. He was going to realise later what he had done."

That's true love, baby. It's only people who haven't experienced it who rail about how "insane" it is.

King’s lover Wallis Simpson was ‘miserable, second-rate American woman’
[Abdication 74 years ago]

Note to the forum:
If you visit San Diego CA, go to the Hotel Del Coronado.
Not only will you be blown away by the wooden structure in the dining hall...
you can see a small cabin on the grounds that was noted for being
the private residence for Edward and Mrs. Simpson when they visited San Diego.

Also, you can walk the halls of the main motel and see photos from
the filming of “Some Like It Hot”.
The place is such an unbelievably huge wooden structure, I’m still
suprised that it hasn’t been destroyed by fire or termites.

BUMPY ride for England. According to one book I read Wallis listened to his broadcast from somewhere in Europe and cried. The author claimed that she didn’t want to be his wife but to continue as his mistress with all the extras that meant. Who knows? She was an illegitimate child whom no man would claim to be her father, according to the author of the book.

On December 11, 1936 it shocked the world when King Edward VIII announced that he was abdicating the throne to “marry the woman I love”.

Well, we would never waste one of our first rate American women on a mere English king.

King Edward was also pro-nazi.

Edward was also a Nazi sympathizer and there was real concern that had Hitler invaded Britain Edward would have been set up as a puppet king. For that reason Churchill had him sent off for the duration of the war as governor of Bermuda.

Wallis Simpson was branded a 'miserable second-rate American woman' by BBC founder Sir John Reith after he learned Edward VIII was to abdicate to marry her, it has emerged in his diaries.

Did Sir John carry an unrequited boner for Edward VIII?

Actually, this King was a traitor. Mrs. Simpson was only an excuse to rid England of him.
