"A hand came through my facemask and, the next thing I knew, blood was running down my face," Roethlisberger said. "I said to [referee Terry McAulay], 'He hit me in the head.' He said, 'He was just trying to tackle you.' "
So much for protecting the quarterback, right?

Unfortunately I’ll miss tonight’s game, should be good though. Pulling for the Jets, just because that’s our best path for #1... OK technically I think the game ending in a tie gives us the completely best shot, but there’s already been one tie this decade so I don’t expect another one until about 2015 or so.
A 4-4 tie bloodbath is what I’m rooting for. :)
I just re-watched it again several times and McClain should be suspended at least one game and fined as heavily as the league will allow.
That is by far just about the cheapest shot I have ever seen.
He could have started to pull up or turned his body to lessen the direct blow.
OHTH,after watched Ben get his nose adjusted, I could see where that "might" have been unintentional or at least the fist going into the face mask was.
Isn’t it strange how the Steelers in the 70s were so successful that they caused the league to liberalize the forward pass (crack down on defenses) to try to make things even. And now, after the Steelers win 2 more Super Bowls, they start cracking down on the Steelers defense again with rule changes?
I'm not a NFL rulebook authority, but I've always been under the impression that when you commit a foul in football, it doesn't matter whether or not it was your intention to commit a foul. It's not the referee's job to decide what your intentions were... they should just strictly judge based on the behavior that is allowed by rule.
IMHO, the referee corps is becoming the 9th circus court of appeals.
The hit on Heath was on purpose and unprofessional dirty football. McClain should be fined and suspended.
His "intent was to take someone out of the game, he could have just as easliy taken out a player permanently by a broken neck
No doubt about the Miller hit. He’s in my prayers. I was pretty sure his career was over when I saw him stiffen up and go into what looked like a seizure. I’ve not heard any news yet as to his condition, though it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to find out that he’s lost for the season.
