I'm trying to learn the origins of the playground parody "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Robin Laid an Egg...". What year and where did you first here this parody?
I heard it in 1982 when I was in 2nd grade.
Next verse:
Hi Ho Hi Ho
I bit the teacher’s toe
That dirty rat she bit me back
Hi Ho Hi Ho Hi Ho Hi Ho
To the tune of the old KFC ditty:
Dah dah dah dah
I hear you knockin’ but you can’t come in
Bah bah bah bah
I’m in my nighty and its OH so thin
Bah bah bah bah
I need some money but I know it’s a sin
Bah bah bah bah
So quit your knockin’ and come on in
GET A BUCKET OF CHICKEN
FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD
HAVE A BARREL OF FUN
GOOD BYE HO HUM
SO COME ON EVERYONE
ITS A FINGER LICKIN’
BARREL OF FUN
Yes, my friends and I sang that when we was six-ish. Didn’t know what it meant. Whew!!!
Are you sure your're not my old friend Tommy? We spent many of "afternoon detentions" together! Lets hear it for the Catholic gig! Nothing like getting into fights behind the church - and then being friends for 30+ years..........
Here. Now.
“Are you sure you’re not my old friend, Tommy?”
Nope! However, I can still smell the chalk dust that seemed to lodge in my nose for my laughing at “inappropriate” times. I would giggle in church then detention. I would giggle at one of the really old nuns for passing wind, then detention. At one point, Sister Paula told my Mom that she saw me more than any other person she knew. It was a great time.
1967. Second grade. The nasty kid at the next desk (Tom B.) kept singing it under his breath.
1967. 4th grade. Omaha, NE.
The next year was “Kennedy, Kennedy is our man! Nixon belongs in a garbage can!”
Liberals’ standards of discourse have declined since then.
