This December, it's a different kind of drama.
The past two SEC championship games were 3 1/2-hour commercials for the league's dominance. Powerhouses Florida and Alabama squared off in de facto national championship semifinals. Both games starred past or eventual Heisman Trophy winners, neither with a whiff of controversy, and two coaches with reputations of success exceeded only by their capacity for grimness.
The 2010 version tastes a little different. South Carolina is coached by one of the conference's most despised (and successful) coaches. Auburn brings a perfect record, a shot at a national championship and a Heisman candidate, runaway favorite Cam Newton. Of course, there's this one little detail about Newton and alleged recruiting issues that you may have heard about.
"Each year seems to have a new level of excitement," former SEC commissioner Roy Kramer said. "Certainly this year is another one."
Interest has scarcely waned. On Thursday, tickets on the re-sale website stubhub.com were going for an average of $460. It's a drop from last year, but on par with 2008 prices. This season, CBS has drawn higher ratings in its coverage of the SEC than it did last year with its season-long homage to Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
The culmination, held in the Georgia Dome for the 17th year, figures to provide a suitable conclusion to a regular season rife with strange turns. Which is to say that even if Auburn loses to drop to 12-1, it could still make the BCS championship game.

I did see Pat Dye. He was thoroughly enjoying himself. I know of at least one other football player from that era who was there. The memories are indeed sweet. My boyfriend at the time also played clarinet in the band with me and so we were sitting together. But he was more “objective” about the game. So, even though we scored, he kept insisting that Bama was better. He cited stats, etc. Finally I pointed out that the only stat that mattered was the one on the board.
I broke up with him that day. LOL!
The two games are different. This year we were outplayed only in the first half. Then, we were outplayed all the game. This year, we knuckled down and worked very hard for the victory. Then, it was a miracle and a gift. This year was the culmination of a great year. Then, it was the culmination of a great year.
One thing that is upsetting about the haters is that we are hearing people we personally know and love slandered and libeled. Judgments are made on the basis of rumors and conclusions are reached out of the chimera shimmering on the wind. And, there is no way to reason with this people. Their minds are made up and don’t try to instill any doubt in them. But, my husband, when he was at North Jackson High, worked with one of the coaches. He was a fine man then and I have no reason to think he has changed. You and I have gone to school with people in the admin at Auburn. People don’t just look at schools and on the basis of stats and records pick to support Auburn. We support Auburn because we have gone to school at Auburn, or a relative went to school at Auburn, or we live there or we have worked here. It is a family thing and it is personal.
Those who attack Cam, attack the Fam.
I have made a personal rule not to answer back or respond to the haters (It’s like fighting with a skunk. Even if you win, you still end up stinking like them.). We won’t change them, so we’ll lock them out of our party.
WAR EAGLE!
Good old "Tie Dye."
You claimed Cam bought a stolen laptop to resell it, can't prove that so you move on to him cheating which you can't prove either because it was reported from 2 anonymous sources by one ESPN hack you put all your faith in. Where's the Florida disciplinary hearing report? Apparently you are not very well read or only read ESPN, probably limited to your time spent on the toilet, who can't prove anything except being good at making allegations at the expense of an 18 year old at the time. You must feel really empowered in a pathetic way. But you can believe what you WHAT to believe.
According to R, David is in Tuscaloosa. Will ask him about the other player. I am constantly amazed at his memory of his teammates from way back then. I had forgotten how much fun college games are. Nothing like it. So, GO DAWGS and WAR EAGLE.
That is just your opinion and just what do you know about this? AU won the game last night and it was terrific being there. Just what is your beef with AU anyway?
Grow up.
Nah, it is the people who hate someone they have never met and never will who are acting real stuck on stupid. Plus, you and the other haters do not have any clue to what the real facts are. To be on a site like this one, believe what the dumb media tells you says a lot about you.
Cam Newton = Harrison Bergeron.
WAR EAGLE.
How much respect do you have for him now? Just curious.
My motives for rooting for the opps of Auburn and Oregon, was to hope a Texas team (TCU) could sneak in to the big game. Alas, no upsets this week.
We will be glued to the TV with our dip and shakers...I agree - this team is special and like no other in my 39 year history with Auburn. You go have a blast!!!
And, there is no way to reason with this people. Their minds are made up and dont try to instill any doubt in them. You are so right - I am going to *try* to adopt your policy and just lock them out!
But, my husband, when he was at North Jackson High, worked with one of the coaches. He was a fine man then and I have no reason to think he has changed. Yes - I also used to fly the team to all of the away games when I was a flight attendant for Delta - our entire crew (pilots and flight attendants) were all alumni. We got to know most of the coaches and staff and I concur with your husband - solid and fine people. Before that, I worked for the University for 5 years after graduate school - again - the highest standards and worthy of respect.
The approach with most of these posters seems to be "he is guilty unless he can be proven innocent" instead of the other way around....I know we would never attack another team's player in that manner - But you and I are Southern ladies and were taught better manners at home AND at Auburn! :)
You don’t perhaps make videos about Alabama football do ya?
This fellow takes the cake for being a Bama fan...
Warning EXTREME LANGUAGE ALERT... and I do mean extreme.

After the athlete was placed under arrest, he was handcuffed and walked to a patrol car. That is when Newtons phone—which had been seized by cops—began vibrating with a series of text messages from accomplice Cesar Perez, who had retrieved the computer from beneath Newtons window. Unaware that his buddy was in custody, Perez assured Newton that cops, did not have shit and if they did, he would be under arrest. Perez advised that Newton should keep denying it.
Other records show that when Newton and his father complained about a grand theft charge being filed against the collegiate star, a prosecutor wrote Newtons lawyer to remind him that his client had already been given many concessions, including the dropping of a felony burglary charge and the governments agreement to allow Newton into a pre-trial intervention program. (6 pages)
Pre-trial intervention, he would have been put on probation at least if he didn’t play football.
To be on a site like this and just toss of the fact that because he is a great football player and you still think he walks on water, says a lot about you.
we didn’t show up. cam is unreal.
Cam did look pretty good didn’t he.
Carolina has gotten better each of the last few years. I expect the same for next year.
Pre-trial intervention, he would have been put on probation at least if he didnt play football
Couldn't have been because his story that he bought it off someone else was believable or was it because the state attorney was just a dumbass and plagiarizers like you are so much smarter? Prove it! Even the "student" who said he overheard him saying he stole it didn't agree to testify.
Guilty before innocent Truther conspiracy types like you are the ones who don't belong here.
