Electoral college math for Sarah Palin (she is very electable)
vanity ^

Posted on 11/26/2010 10:58:03 PM PST by se_ohio_young_conservative

It is early. The only thing that stays the same is that everything changes with time. But there are a few things we can assume with high confidence, the economic situation will decide the 2012 election and the economy does not look to be recovering very fast..if at all. Then the question for Obama will be how can he get the toothpaste back into the tube in reguards to the unpopular health care bill and what will be a 14 trillion dollar national debt. How can he generate the same energy among younger voters that he did in 2008 unless there is a game changer ? Sarah Palin has to connect with people and having strong message. All she has to do is be an alternative.

The 2012 election will be won or lost in the Great Lakes region. In 2008 States such as OH, MI and PA are leaning Republican. New Republican governors are preparing to take office. Iowa is always a close state. Although Minnesota and Illinois are still leaning toward the Democrats, Wisconsin is turning in our favor. Indiana is coming back.

Elsewhere..

I believe Obama has serious problems in 3 southern states, Virginia, North Carolina and especially Florida where the healthcare bill is very unpopular.

In the Mountain west we are still looking strong in most states. Of course Colorado is always a true toss up. The trouble spots are Nevada and New Mexico. I still believe these states will be in play.

Sarah Palin could win with 274 electoral votes by carrying the Republican leaning Mid Atlantic states that Bush carried in 04 plus Ohio, Florida and Colorado. But then you factor in the rest of the Midwest. Throw in Michigan, Iowa, PA, Wisconsin. There would be an additional 52 electoral college votes in play. Then a secondary group of states such as Nevada, New Mexico and New Hampshire and there are 15 more.

The bottom line is.. there are 161 Obama 2008 electoral votes in play and atleast 100 of them are leaning in our direction. We don't have to run the table this time. There are several paths to victory.

What more could they do than what they have already tried ?

These are dangerous times for our country, but we are strong people. Governor Palin is a strong person. we just have to make this a strong country again.

they can throw whatever blades they want at us. but the media is not going to break us. they are making us tougher

Why can’t she win ? It’s about time one of you people have the balls to answer that question. You can’t. you have none and that is the problem.

we can’t let the media and the liberals dictate who our candidates will be. do you want to fight to win or fight not to lose ? forget about losing and think about winning.

I have no idea of the pain the libs will cause for Palin. I just know that they will attack her with a vengence. They hate her so much because she speaks the truth.

Like you, I love Sarah and her strength.

Gosh, you are one tough cookie.

I really like you Ohio

PS. We are strong in MO too. McCaskill will be gone.

“we can’t let the media and the liberals dictate who our candidates will be.”

This is your best point of the thread so far.

We let the media and liberals pick the republican candidate last time (McCain). Where did that get us?

Nearly every objection I see here on FR to a Palin run consists of parroting the media and the libs.

The media says she is “unelectable” and we get a crowd here who repeat that like it came from God himself.

The left says she is unqualified due to “lack of experience” and we get a crowd here who repeat THAT as if it is a pronouncement from on high.

Come on Freepers, use your heads! THINK for once and stop acting as tools of the socialist controlled major media outlets.

A lot can happen in two years. There may be another, better candidate out there. As things stand right now I think she is our best bet.

When I heard her speech at the Republican National Convention in ‘08 I said “That woman is going to be president someday”. I still believe that.

She’s Ronald Reagan in a dress. If you oppose her, it would be unwise to underestimate her.

I think the problem is that a lot of these people listen to their Democrat friends. I have Democratic friends too. I know Democrats who told me over the years that they liked John McCain and would vote for him. Well guess what, they didnt.

I hate to take anything from the Obama playbook because of the man himself and what he stands for. But I will say this...we do need to get in their faces and we do need to scream them straight. milquetoast doesnt cut it. we conservatives have played nice for way too long,

They want Mitt or Huck and for either of these two jokes to get anywhere Sarah has to either not run, or be bashed into oblivion.

We can’t argue for following the Constitution and nominate Jindal. We would make hypocritical monkeys of ourselves.

She can’t win because she was not the governor of a well populated state (one with many electoral votes).

I like her. I would certainly vote for her over BHO. Still, a better candidate should have in their resume being a governor for multiple terms from a larger state. Hence so many successful presidents that have been governors of large states. That would be better preparation than being a Senator or VP.

Playing around with the 2012 projected votes and the 2008 results yields an amusing case. If the GOP flips CO, FL, IN, NC, VA, OH, and the one vote in NE, and the Dims flip WV, it ends in a 269 tie. In this case the Dims would likely have the popular vote... can anyone picture the GOP Congress voting against the media portraying things as unfair?

Don’t give me a headache please. Yowzers...

Our system is not perfect but its the right system for us.

I was looking at some old electoral maps. This country narrowly dodged a bullet like that in 1968. Not a 269-269 tie. but a situation where a 3rd party nut from Alabama carried a few states and almost held Richard Nixon and the Happy Warrior Hubert Humphrey below 270. That would have been a disaster. Our Republic was clearly designed to be a 2 party system.

I used to hate the idea of voting for a 3rd Party candidate myself until elitist morons like Spencer Bachus and Steve Schmidt started insulting us conservatives.

Come on Freepers, use your heads! THINK for once and stop acting as tools of the socialist controlled major media outlets.

One does not have to be a tool of the media to question the viability of ANY candidate. But an informed voter would be wholly negligent to ignore the effect the MSM has on a significant number of potential voters. The three broadcast networks still have a combined average twenty million voters each night and for many of these viewers the nightly newscast is their only source information on which they base their decisions.

One cannot ignore the reality of the forces aligned against your side if you wish to win the battles and the war. Are you old enough to recall how the MSM totally destroyed Gerald Ford or Dan Quayle or how the MSM made an affirmative action loser a genius named Obama. Once these perceptions are implanted in the minds of many they become indelible. Whether warranted or not Sarah Palin has very high unfavorables ratings in the overall population and the MSM is waiting to sandbag her after the nomination.

When I vote in the primary, I will vote based on which candidate is most likely to defeat the great pretender and if that means making certain concessions on my principles. I would not make these concessions lightly but I cannot allow Obama more time in office to push our country beyond the tipping point to which we are dangerously close.
