1) Quitting as governor after only two years. (Ronald Reagan served eight)
She saved herself from being dragged into a legal quagmire that the Dems believed they could create. She defeated them
2) The normal perception of any conservative by the MSM that she is stupid.
This is so poorly phrased I can’t make out what you mean.
3) No history of statements on public policy issues prior to 2008.
As a Governor, did she need to make any? Or should she have been tending to managing the Corrupt Bastards, which she did brilliantly?
4) Overexposure that often appears unpresidential.
To who? As opposed to Clinton or Bush on Leno and Letterman? Regan on Death Valley Days? Who?
5) No political base either regionally or politically. (Obama had blacks and college kids for example, Reagan had men. Obama had Illinois and California, Reagan had California, the West and South).
This is a joke, right? NO political base?
6) Appeal to independents, in 2010 independents left Obama for anyone else, will they do the same in 2012 if Palin is the nominee?
A genuine concern. She is not a middle of the road gal. That is what I prefer, someone who is right and stays there. You are a Mitt supporter?
7) What is her big issue and how does she explain it? (I don’t think the I’m not Obama will work for her or anyone else all by itself.)
Small government. You really haven’t watched or read anything by her, have you? Why? You think she is unpresidential and stupid, huh?
Nice post!
2) The normal perception of any conservative by the MSM that she is stupid.
This is so poorly phrased I cant make out what you mean.
If I'm reading this right - that you are claiming that the MSM paints her as stupid the same way that they paint other conservatives as stupid, then I may have a response:
I think Gov. Palin is getting around them through her use of Facebook and Twitter, as well as through her books. She has stated that she will not interview with Couric again. I think she is making it clear that she can and will get her message out WITHOUT the MSM - and they hate her for it. She is winning against them.
As far as changing the perception of the MSM that conservatives are stupid rednecks or bigots or whatever else... you can't and won't do that, and Palin isn't wasting her time trying.
Assuming you’re serious about this:
1) Quitting as governor after only two years. (Ronald Reagan served eight)
If governor were her ONLY experience in government then one could be worried about her lack of experience but she actually has more executive experience at more levels of government than all the other contenders on both sides.
They reasons WHY she quit are explained over and over again on every thread about her. The same people bring it up in every thread over and over again. No matter how much it’s explained it’s not going to change anything for them. To find the reason just look at just about any other thread about her on FR. It doesn’t even have to be about her running for president. It could be anything from what she would name a new puppy to threads about her daughter on dancing with the stars. Do a search. Some of the research you can do yourself, right? That’s a pretty good idea for anyone who wants to form their own ideas.
2) The normal perception of any conservative by the MSM that she is stupid.
The MSM loses credibility everyday. She has done an excellent job doing an end-run around the press. Her facebook posts and “tweets” get talked about everywhere. The woman says jump and the press asks “how high”. They may talk down about her opinions but in order to discuss them they have to say what those opinions are. Since her POV mirrors the common sense values and positions of the majority of the country what the press thinks is irrelevant.
FOX is becoming more and more important (and more watched) everyday. She’s on quite a lot voicing her opinion about how she would handle various situations. Also, people remember how the they were duped by the press in their drooling obsession with getting Obama elected. We’re all suspicious now. Conservative candidates won handily this last election. She was at the forefront. People know how successful she was.
3) No history of statements on public policy issues prior to 2008.
Not true. You’d have to go research some of her service in Alaska. She’s especially well informed about energy policy and energy independence. Besides, how many governors make broad statements about “public policy” beyond how it applies to their state? Does it really matter how long she’s been making these statements as long as she’s made them and they’re the right ones?
4) Overexposure that often appears unpresidential.
Overexposure is a matter of opinion, I guess so I won’t deal with that. However, I would ask what’s unpresidential? Who decides? Does Obama act presidential? Romney? Bush (any of them)? McCain? How has that perfect presidential appearance worked out for the American people so far? Was Bedtime for Bonzo presidential? Or Hellcat’s of the Navy? Or how about Lincoln’s journey to the White House? Teddy Roosevelt didn’t exactly have a prim and proper Ivy League ascension either. I think much of the country is pretty fed up with politics as usual. Probably why so many unpolished first-timers won in the midterms.
5) No political base either regionally or politically. (Obama had blacks and college kids for example, Reagan had men. Obama had Illinois and California, Reagan had California, the West and South)
And you know this because? Perhaps her base is wider than those groups. She seems to do okay in polls. And for the record Reagan’s negatives were high too so that argument is kinda ridiculous. And there’s quite a bit of time left to build a base.
6) Appeal to independents, in 2010 independents left Obama for anyone else, will they do the same in 2012 if Palin is the nominee?
Well, who would’ve thought so many “conservative” candidates would have appealed to the independents this time? We’re a center-right conservative country. There aren’t as many squishy middle independents as everyone thinks. Remember, Obama with help from the press, pretended to be at least center, if not center-right on many issues.
None of us are Mother Dora so predicting the future is pretty hard. She needs to make her case in the primaries and then if she wins in the general. Personally, I think people are tired (and even suspicious) of the polished, typical, elitist politician and are looking for someone more like “us”. Again, the last midterms when many of us flyover folks were elected is a pretty good indication of where the country is right now.
7) What is her big issue and how does she explain it? (I don’t think the I’m not Obama will work for her or anyone else all by itself.)
What the hell was Obama’s big issue? Why does she need one? I’ve heard her talk about energy independence, American exceptionalism, restoring the US to our #1 place in the world, sound fiscal policy, securing the border, repealing health care, immigration, etc. Honestly, if you haven’t heard her speak about these things or read some of her writings then, with all due respect, you really need to do some of your own research.
In past elections have you relied on everyone else to tell you about the candidates or did you do your own research as well as considering the opinions of others? Her books, facebook pages, FOX news appearances, speech transcripts are available (do a google search). That way you won’t be overly influenced by those who think she’d be the greatest president since Reagan or those who never have a good thing to say about her. After that, if you don’t think she’s the right candidate support the one you think is. You need to convince (or not) yourself. Don’t expect others to your work for you.
