How Does Palin Overcome These Issues To Win Presidency?
Vanity ^ | 11/24/2010 | Patrick1

Sarah Palin seems to be the favorite of the majority of Free Republic members. I still have not made up my mind about her. But if she is the consevative movement's choice to take on the disaster of Obama who has gone from The Messiah to the Mess then there are things that she will need to overcome to get 50% plus one of the American people's vote in 2012. I've listed the ones I hope her supporters can address here because failure to take these issues on will result in certain defeat.

So...she is no self-made political wizard like Reagan. And the one man who gave her the big shot, you as her follower deride as “McLame.” Talk about small.

I know the reason her supporters state for resigning. I just don’t think it will fly in a national campaign for President of the United States.

It would appear her detractors don't share your confidence....

1. Politics takes money. She had to go out and make some.
2. Enabled by idiots who watch TV. ALL TV is garbage. Women are more susceptible to garbage like The View. TV makes Repub women look evil and Pelosi/Boxer as angels. 3. Not a problem. She has gotten better, smart and more experienced in the past 2 years/ 4. Not a problem. 5. White males will vote for her. White females will if they have any sense. 6. Anyone but Obama and Hillary. The Clintons should have destroyed this monster and they blew it.l They have just as much blame. The s***ty TV networks (ALL of them)will fawn over the Clinton. 7. SHe may be able to save American from ruin. We are a lot closer to the drooling TV fans who attack me sometimes on FR know. They enjoy being stupid think Al Waleed's Fox is the solution. Her problem is women voters. Even Republican women. We just have to make sure the elites/islam/wall street does not give us Mitt or some other loser like SCUM McCain. DeMint, Sarah, even Thune or a more conservative Christie or some other conservative. Rick Santorum is not bad. No Mitt, Newt, Huck or Jeb.

There has to be at least 50,000 towns in America with a larger population than Wasilla, AK.

There is no better political experience than that gained by meeting your constituents in the grocery store.

How is 31 months, 2 years? Why ignore more than a half year?

Romney was a failed Governor that could not run for reelection even though he wanted to.

Romney left his single electoral office that took him a decade to get into, a failure, with a 34% approval rate, and gave the seat to the Democrats.

She’s a woman. She should not be weak among women. That’s like a candidate not carrying their home state. It’s not good news.

US voting population is about 20% liberal, 40% moderate, 40% conservatives. So she needs about 11% moderates is how I see it. If she only have 80% of conservatives, Then I gues she needs about 18% moderates

This is the dumbest thread of the last 24 hours, but I'll try to respond. Obviously, Patrick1, you are one of the few FReepers who places any credence in MSM:

1) Quitting as governor after only two years. (Ronald Reagan served eight)

Because of frivolous lawsuits, all of which I believe have been dismissed, Palin was $500k in debt because of legal fees. More frivolous suits would be coming. What would you have done? Ronald Reagan never faced ethics suits for wearing an Arctic Cat jacket or had the White House or DNC plotting against him when he was governor.

2) The normal perception of any conservative by the MSM that she is stupid. ????? Yes, MSM attempts to destroy any conservative that they sense has a strong potential. I guess you are trying to make a point. I can't figure out what it is.

3) No history of statements on public policy issues prior to 2008.

Governors don't normally make statements on national policy. How many statements on national policy has your governor made in his/her first two years in office? Never the less, Sarah Palin made numerous statements of energy independence before 2008. Energy independence isn't a public policy issue in your mind? She wasn't critical of the Administration because it was the Bush Administration.

4) Overexposure that often appears unpresidential.

You are quoting Karl Rove who has an agenda and is a very ethically-challenged individual (even for a politician). You brought up Reagan before. Reagan participated in many of Dean Martin's “Roasts.” Was this being “Presidential?”

5) No political base either regionally or politically. (Obama had blacks and college kids for example, Reagan had men. Obama had Illinois and California, Reagan had California, the West and South

The Tea Party isn't a national base? Palin has 2.4 million Facebook followers and over 100,000 Team Sarah members that are itching to start campaigning for her.

6) Appeal to independents, in 2010 independents left Obama for anyone else, will they do the same in 2012 if Palin is the nominee?

Your first intelligent question. Obviously she will have to win over a portion of independents. Hopefully she can overcome impressions created by MSM by communicating directly with the American people.

7) What is her big issue and how does she explain it? (I don't think the I'm not Obama will work for her or anyone else all by itself.)

Palin’s primary influence is that she has been a one-woman army fighting Obama. She has a number of big issues including energy independence, opposing ObamaCare, restoring fiscal integrity, cutting government waste. She has been articulating positions on these issues, but probably won't be specific until she announces her candidacy (if she does).

Patrick1, next time you decide to post a thread might I suggest you put a little more thought into it rather than blindly following or worrying about MSM.

Where have you been? Asking those questions, that way, in this place, is like criticizing Linda Tripp.

I see that. All I really was hoping for was some FReeper who had already created a list of the top ten reasons Palin can win the independent vote or some such rationale so I wouldn't have to so it for myself.

Apparently this thread is simply a place for knee jerk Palin supporters to spout off without any basis for their support other than to refer people to her website, Facebook page or public speeches.

Politically I don't oppose that. Intellectually I think its foolish.

Oh ok, two and one-half years. I’ll concede that!

Speaking about giving a seat to the Democrat, is that kinda like giving the seat back to the angry, party-jilted Murkowski?

“They will be thinking should a I vote for someone that can be run out of office by a bunch of ambulance chasers.”

You don’t think the legal weight of the Democratic Party can be dismissed as “ambulance chasers” do you? Really? Or do you truly think she was simply being attacked by some hicks in Alaska?

Put down the Times. Back away. Take a deep breath.

She resigned, and came after her attackers, and beat the pants off of them.

As I say, the list of fighters among our politicals is pretty short. You have Palin, DeMint, and Bachmann, and maybe a couple of others who made it their purpose in life to go after Obama and try to stop his runaway train. And then you have the “electables”, the ones who think its their turn to be president. They mostly sat quietly the last couple of years, carefully husbanding their political viability waiting for election season to roll around.

You should notice something. The fighters spend all their ammo on Obama. The “electables” spend their ammo going after Palin. If one of them is your candidate, good for you. I’m sure he’d make a fine president. You just have to ask yourself why such a prodigy has sat so quietly when the fate of the republic hung in the balance. Leaders don’t wait for the phone to ring offering them the job, leaders lead. Fighters fight. Wannabes wait for the coronation and gripe about folks like Palin, DeMint, and Bachmann and worry that the Tea Party is going to drive away the “moderates”.

Just how did those Indies vote in 2010? Seems like they voted the Palin/Tea Party way and against Obama.

Exactly. Obama will be a pushover by '12.

What we need to defeat is the RINOs trying to convince the country she can't win.
