LYNNFIELD, Mass. -- A man shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend and her sister before killing himself Monday night in Lynnfield, according to police.

"Look at this street, you know. You're not in the city. It's a little, tiny, quiet street," said Ruth McMahon, a neighbor.

Police said that 51-year-old Joseph Cummings shot his girlfriend, Kimberly Nguyen, 35, and her sister Lilly Nguyen, 29, after a domestic dispute inside a house on Ledge Road around 10 p.m.

Neighbors from a block away knew something horrible happened inside the home.

"It was like ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop!' You know, it was very quick," said Kevin Prickett, a neighbor.

The couple apparently had been fighting moments before the shooting.

"It may have been an argument over the naming of the child that Kimberly was pregnant with," said John Blodgett, the Essex County District Attorney.

Police said after Cummings shot his girlfriend, Nguyen's sister tried to escape by jumping out a second floor window, but couldn't.

"He then shot her through the window where she was on the ground defenseless," said Blodgett.

Kimberly Nguyen’s 12-year-old daughter fled to neighbor Ruth McMahon's home and called 911.

"We did everything we could," said McMahon.

Investigators believe Cummings never went after the 12-year-old girl.

"Thankfully, if there's any kind of good news out of this story, which is a terrible tragedy, is that she was spared," said Blodgett.

When police arrived, they found that all three people at the home were dead, as well as Nguyen's unborn baby. Kimberly Nguyen was reportedly six months pregnant with Cummings’ child.

"It's a terrible tragedy for everyone, particularly the 12-year-old girl," said McMahon.

The district attorney's office said they never had any complaints of domestic violence from the home.

Officials are awaiting an autopsy report to see if Cummings was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The 12-year-old girl is currently in an undisclosed location, but is with her family.

Murder-suicides always take place in the wrong sequence.

According to the Lynn Item:

>>”Our investigation indicates there was an argument over the name of the child she was carrying. She wanted to hyphenate the name; he did not,” said Steve O’Connell, Blodgett’s spokesman.
