On deer hunting opening day, Hortonville teen, Corissa Wege, bags 3 bucks in one hour
By Kathy Walsh Nufer For Wisconsinoutdoorfun.com
DALE Anyone who wonders if this is a good year for deer hunting need only ask Corissa Wege, 16, of Hortonville, or Wayne Freimuth, 53, of Black Creek.
For them, the thrill of the hunt couldn't get any better than what they experienced Saturday on opening day of Wisconsin's annual nine-day gun deer season.

Wege bagged three bucks a 13-pointer, a 10-pointer and an 8-pointer all within one hour.
"It was really cool," Wege said. "That will probably never happen again. I couldn't believe it."
"They're out there," said a jubilant Freimuth, showing off his prize 12-point buck he was certain would tip the scales at 200 pounds.
"Isn't it amazing, me getting this one and a 16-year-old getting three bucks?" said Freimuth after congratulating Wege. "I told her she's awesome, and she will never top that. They are going to call her dead-eye from now on."
Wege arrived at the Mini-Mart about 10:30 a.m. with her three bucks.
She had been hunting west of Hortonville since 5:30 a.m. with a party of family friends and relatives, including her dad, Tom Wege, who had bagged a 12-pointer while bow hunting earlier this fall.
"They're huge," said Tom Wege, describing how she shot her first buck at 7 a.m. and had just enough time to reload her gun before shooting the second, followed quickly by the third.
"We're done," he laughed. "I took the gun away from her and told her to stop. Between mine and her deer, this is going to cost me $2,000."
Corissa said it was fun to impress her dad with not one, but three deer. "He's pretty much proud of me whenever I go hunting, but this is special," she said.
Freimuth got lucky hunting near Outagamie County M outside Hortonville.
"There was a lot of shooting out there between 6 and 7:30 a.m. a lot of deer. After a couple not so good years it seems a lot better this year," he said.
"I shot this one at exactly 8:30 a.m. The woods were so dry and crisp. I could hear him and then all I could see was antlers coming. It was only a 15-yard shot and I dropped him in his tracks. It is the biggest deer I've ever seen in the woods and I've been hunting nearly 30 years."
Other hunters stopped by Freimuth's truck to admire the buck, comment on the massive rack of antlers and take photos with their cell phone cameras.
"That's a beautiful deer," said Lance Simonis, of Hortonville, as he arrived with the doe he had just shot. "That's a buck of a lifetime."
Lauren Main, manager of Dale's Mini-Mart, said she had registered only about six deer until Wege and Freimuth showed up. Within the next half hour she had registered a total of 16.
Over at Colwitz's Convenience Store in Shiocton, Dylan Van Straten had registered 58 deer as of 11:30 a.m. "Last year we ended up with a total of 164 opening day and we should be well above that this year," he said.
Dick Nikolai, a wildlife biologist with the state Department of Natural Resources checked the teeth of new arrivals to gauge their age and said he was seeing a good range of ages up to 4 and 5 years old and had seen a fair number of deer when he was out hunting earlier.
"Last year was warmer, very quiet and the deer could sneak through easily. This year it's crisp and frosty and the deer are moving. Last year they weren't moving."
As Nikolai checked a buck brought in by Ryan Murray, 15, of Germantown, Murray described his morning in the woods with his cousin Pete Omholt, of Shiocton.
"It was fun. It really got your heart pumping. It's a good day for hunting."
I think krankor is fawns cousin or sumptin. You do know or have heard of fawn haven’t you, our resident peta person?
“The hunting threads also bring out a few PETA and anti-hunting freaks from time to time, of course I don’t know that’s the case here. :)”
I am neither. I clearly stated that I was not against hunting.
I rode to the hounds as a fox hunter, and I have many hunting friends.
I just thought it strange that someone would get such a thrill out of killing three deer in one day.
I have also had very bad experiences with poachers when I had a farm.
The rest of my remarks were just to poke fun at the rabid hunters on here.
Sez you, a non-hunter who lives in a completely different part of the country. Who are you to tell someone in another state what's "excessive" or not? Are you on the Wisconsin Fish and Game board? Are you a Wisconsin state legislator? Do you live in Wisconsin? If not, why don't you let the good folks up there determine what's "excessive" and what isn't.
"I have plenty of friends that are sportsmen hunters.
Gee, I bet you don't opine too often with them about what's "excessive", do you? Because if you did, they'd likely tell you what the rest of us have today...that if it's legal, what's the big deal? That the only thing that makes it "excessive" is your tender sensitivity?
"I never said that ALL are bloodthirsty redneck poachers, but maybe YOU are."
Oh, but you certainly implied as much when you launched into your anecdote about your farm east of Memphis. Your personal "sore spot" has nothing to do with someone shooting three bucks on opening day, it has to do with poachers on your land. Did any of them shoot three bucks in one day on your land? No, your problem is that they were on your land, hunting without your permission, which I certainly understand would upset any property owner. Yet, you equated the legal harvesting of three deer by a teen girl in Wisconsin, with the redneck poachers from Memphis. What she did has nothing to do with what they did, yet you connect the two scenarios like they're related. Therefore, any rational person could infer that you harbor a low opinion of hunters, and probably a good amount of resentment. By implication, you painted her with the same broad brush with which you painted them, and likely the rest of us as well. Checkmate.
You know, on second thought, I doubt you really have any friends that are hunters. Anyone who thought so little of me as to put my legal hunting on the same level of poaching would definitely not be on my Christmas card list. Your claiming to have friends that are hunters reminds me of the old protest, "I'm not racist...I have a lot of friends that are black!"

Well, whatever is said by the anti-hunters... God Bless that little lady and her kisses of love... lol
I love deer more than any Disney watchin’ Dr. Phil feelin’, Oprah lovin’ bunny huggin queer.... none of them will ever realize how the protein enriched backstrap will set you free....
One thing many folks fail to realize is that us hunters and fishermen put up the money to support all of these deadbeats who complain about the environment and such because we do more than they do to support and sustain the great outdoors.
WE BUY THE LICENSES; WHAT DO THEY PAY FOR?
“Anyone who thought so little of me as to put my legal hunting on the same level of poaching would definitely not be on my Christmas card list.”
HAHAHA, and it has been YOU that I have had the most fun tweaking.
Now, go have a cold beer and chill out.
Everything will be OK.
In family hunts such as this, the combined tags will cover the deer shot by the daughter......that's a very common practice and perfectly legal.
I know you’re not a PETA person or an anti-hunter, I was jabbing you a little.
In the Western states that I’ve hunted my entire life it’s not legal to fill another persons tag though I’ve seen it done a few times.
Where it is legal I don’t see a thing wrong with it. That was a once in a lifetime thing and I truly don’t believe she did in out of bloodlust.
I’d bet money this was discussed among all the hunters in the party and an agreement was made should someone have the opportunity to kill more than one it was okay and another would tag it.
This was a fluke, a person could hunt their entire lifetime and never have the opportunity to kill three bucks in that amount of time.
I don’t believe she should be criticized for doing it.
AMEN to that! :-)
Krankor, since you couldn't reply in a manner civilized enough so as to not get your comment deleted, I can only assume that since I asked you who you were to pass judgment on the girl and her family, you asked who was I to pass judgment on Keith Odorman and Michael Steele? Nice red herring there, buddy, but I'll play ball. I can do it because both Odorman and Steele are public figures who issue statements all the time, and who make their thoughts and opinions known to everyone who sees and hears them on TV and radio. We know what they think and how they think, we know their track records, we know their histories. OTOH, the teen girl is a private citizen, who most everyone, you included, knew nothing about until they read this story.
My God, that was so easy, I feel like I'm playing teeball, not that they play teeball in Moldova. Can you reply without threatening me or being abusive? I'd really like to play some more teeball...

Oh just do a search on her name, some chick from Florida, or wait around, she might show up.

“”...but this is excessive greed.”
Oh booshwa!”
That wasn’t my statement. I was responding to the poster who said that.
All I can say is PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals. There is enough room on my plate right next to the potatoes and green beans. Congratulations on a good haul from the woods.
I would rather have them taken out of the woods and fields by a bullet or arrow than from my car. I have hit a number of them with cars over the years. GM station wagon - wrecked the passenger headlight and grill. 65 chevy broke the headlight and cracked the windshield. chevy vega - totaled, volkswagen beetle classic - totaled, ford ranger pick up - totaled and chevy chevette - totaled.
Man, ain't that the truth! As Uncle Ted calls it, "Backstrap Fever".

Yes I hunt although I wish i could get out more. The deer down here in Florida are small.
I think I’d butcher my own before spending 2k especially since most of those places mix and match on the meat they give you.
Sorry 'bout the knee jerk reaction earlier. I'm so used to the bunny huggers and wolf lovers on these hunting threads that I tend to shoot too soon sometimes. I'll check my backstop next time.

She was talking about ALL 3!!
One of my brothers butchers for extra money. He’s pretty good at it. Ya need a nice stainless table and some good knives.
Wow! I’d be happy if I got ONE. I will try to go pick up my hunting license tomorrow.
