How long have the frozen turkeys been frozen? I was told by a former grocer that in some cases it is as long as a year.
I wouldn’t think so especially if they are frozen quickly and at subzero temperatures.
Im donating my 22 cent a pound turkey and gonna get a $2.00 pound fresh one from Whole Foods.
I know they wouldnt sell anything like a 2 year frozen turkey.
Pardon me. I usually feel jovial moments before I put a bullet through my brain.
Perspective was what I was trying to say.
That is exactly what happens when they are frozen to long.
I had one for 2 years once and it was the same deal.
At least I had the good sense to inject it with creole butter to restore some flavor!
Obviously. LOL
Then you really shouldn't ask how long Hams can stick around for and cold storage - lol
There's food of all sorts hanging around all over the country - especially after the holidays - many distributors try to sell out and call the demand - some mess up
The producers also need to guage the growing market months in advance and if they don't call it right there's shortages or overages.
If you need a chain saw to carve it after you cook it, it’s prolly been frozen for more than a year!
Given the huge numbers of turkeys consumed during 2 months of the year, and that turkeys are grown year-round, it would seem likely that many or most are frozen for at least six to ten months.
Im trying to get away from looking for the cheapest food available. There is some real crap out there.
I was sucked in again with the lure of 22 cent/lb turkey...
A top quality turkey for around $24 that 6 of us will feast on. Then we will get sandwiches for a couple of days and then finally the carcass will be used to make gumbo.
Not too expensive when I think about it that way.
The new turkey got hold of a crowbar and sent 8 of us to the hospital. That was a bad ass turkey.
I always donate the one the company gives out too.
Wrap that baby in buttered cheese cloth, spices, stuffing and roast him on low heat. Yummy.
Oh Dear!
Check your label - here’s one from the Norbest site (end of this page)

Most products use Julian dates and will somewhat keep to the same pattern - they all don’t read the same.
You’re looking for the manufacturer codes, they will put these on the birds to track if anything is wrong with the products to initiate pinpoint recalls or if anything foreign ends up in the product and they can track the processing line-date-time, etc.
You aint gonna believe this MS B.
I just got back from the store and they had a veggie tray that had baby carrots, celery and broccoli, with a tub of ranch dressing for $14.49!!!!
Who spends $15 on a $3.50 item?
Is it to hard to cut up celery sticks and broccoli florets?
Honest to Jeez!
I could carve a frozen mammoth with the knives in this house.
I’m trying to figure out the connection between Mitt Romney and frozen turkeys.
