I will be flying on Christmas Day so I need to know what is meant by “opt out”. Does that mean refuse the scanner and take the pat down? Does it mean don’t fly? Also, are all passengers now receiving the enhanced procedure after passing through the metal detector?

I believe that opt out means you can refuse the body scanner. I don’t think you have an option when it comes to the “enhanced pat down”, if they want to do it. Problem is, once you get in the line, you’ve opted IN, apparently, to SOME sort of screening. Or else be threatened with fines, as was the case in San Diego.

Just try to get information from TSA or the airlines about this, too. Good luck. I mean that.

I’m not sure, but based on what’s happened so far in recent weeks, it could mean that even if you opt out of everything and leave the airport, the government could open up an investigation into you, your family, and your life so far. That’s what happened to the “junk man.”

I suggest that you contact your County DA and demand that he prosecute BO & BS’ TSA Perverts for sexual assault.

Opt-Out means you do not have to go through the scanner, but you will get the Full Molestation Patdown.

Here is the kicker: If the scanner detects anything OR if the screener decides you require "additional screening" you are also subject to the Full Molestation Patdown.

Given that, it is probably best to simply "opt-out" and take the Full Molestation Patdown since you have a good chance of not only being digitally strip-searched by the radiation scanner, but also after that having to suffer the indignity of the Full Molestation Patdown.

Save the exposure to radiation.

The scanner replaces the metal detector. If you “opt out” you are asking to be searched by hand.

Just go through the scanner and get on with your life.

Not all airports have the new scanners or rely only on them. In my experience some still use both metal detectors and the new scanners and randomly select people for the enhanced scan.
