I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the muzzle blast of that.

Don’t know if you this open to suggestions, but have you considered a Marlin 1894C? It’s a lever action rifle with an 18.5” barrel and 36” overall length. Shoots 357 Magnum and 38 Special ammo. Versatile enough to(with the appropriate loads) to work as a home defense gun, plinker, rabbit or squirrel gun, or even a short range deer rifle. 38 Special is very quiet out of a rifle if you’re interested in a home defense gun that would be easy on your ears if you had to fire it in the house. Doesn’t have the capacity of an AR-15, but the side loading port makes it easy to top the magazine off. Cheaper than an AR-15, too—to buy and to shoot.

Oh man! First, the pics ... ‘JohnnySeven rifle’, is right! Nagant pistol? How’s the wrist? Now, in retort to the double-barrel shotgun suggestion ... 12 gauge? With all that wild ammo being produced for the Taurus Judge .410 revolver, why not just a double-barreled .410, shooting that stuff, if for home defense? Yes, whatever, WHATEVER comes out that barrel has a 90/10 possibility of going through a wall, or something else, if not through the idiots invading your house! While suggesting firearms, why not look at the S and W TRR8 revolver, a design coming from Thunder Ranch, in Oregon. an eight shot revolver, in a nice business caliber, with goodies already suggested in this thread, attached. Still handier than a rifle, and the caliber will reach out a bit farther than the 25 yard pistol range allows.

Here’s the link ...

Have fun!

There have never been so many QUALITY M4-type carbines available as right now, and right now is also a buyer's market. If you want one off the rack, Daniel Defense makes a very good carbine in many useful variations that are hard to beat; BCM also makes a good product that is easily tailored to different needs by some shops who specialize in such things. Moving up the price scale, Noveske and Knights Armament are often seen as being better than the Colts, which are still generally considered the baseline for the genre.

Not to say you can't get a reasonably good AR or M4gery from other manufacturers, but I went through a number of mediocre ones that were "almost as good" for a "little less money."

Whole heartily in agreement ping.

Keep in mind that a striped lower receiver is considered a “Gun” because it has the serial number, but since it is still supposed to be a free country, individuals can still buy and sell personal property without the government looking over your shoulder.

Hey, the tried and true M1911 design is 100 years old and still going strong.

So much for the gun grabbers thinking that guns are a new invention or something...

(Sorry, but I’m not understanding your tagline)

Ok as always. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO USE IT FOR? Makes a big difference on the answer.

Save money by buying off brand parts.

Actually, Cheaper Than Dirt sells DPMS AR innards at reasonable prices. Spring sets, pin sets, charging handles.

If you dig deep, you’ll find that an awful lot of “off brand” stuff is the same as name brand stuff...without the mark-up. Forged recievers...upper and lower come from a limited number of forges. The one on an upper I got from J&T Distributing bears a Cerro Forge mark. A close inspection of some of the gun porn reveals the same mark on Remington and Rock River Arms rifles, to name a couple. Lewis Machine and Tool does an great deal of work that doesn’t get LMT plastered all over it.
