No, I think TREASON just needs to be brought back into the lexicon of FREEDOM. Anyone who tries to subvert the Constitution, inside government or out, needs to be tried, convicted and SHOT for treason, i.e., subversion of the Constitution. No IFs, ANDs or BUTs.

America! It's about

★ Estimated Value – PRICELESS! ★

'Treason' seems to no longer hold that same revulsion.

Alright then, how about 'Obama'?

All traitors should be hung from meat hooks with piano wire. And yes especially those in political office who commit this act need to be publically executed.

Treason requires an overt indictable act against the Republic.

If you want to dig in to the souls of men and prosecute bad thoughts, then you shall soon find your thoughts judged by the likes of me. Or whomever assumes control.

Being an America hating suckpump is not treason, it is simple freedom of expression.

Do We Need A New Word For Treason?

No.

Just like the Constitution, let's use the one we have.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague".

Some traitors, if they don't have the common sense to ready the helicopters, cut their losses and back down in light of the growing popular patriotic storms brewing around them, end up as mere, useless, throwaway postage stamps and historical irritants. Afterthoughts.

Communists used to be seen as traitors.

Now it’s pretty clear it’s Democrats.

There is only one person this year that has been treasonous and that was that kid who let over 60,000 pages of confidential papers on wikileaks. I don’t believe people use the term correctly.

Treason is the only crime defined in the US constitution.

Article 3, Section 3. “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.”

We need to follow the constitution.

The word "treason" hasn't lost it's meaning, or it's importance.

What we are lax in is our ENFORCEMENT. A rape or a murder harms one person, treason harms a Nation and can lead to rape and murder if that Nation falls. Treason, by even my libertarian standards, is the ultimate initiation of Fraud.

Then again, I think violation of USC Title 18 Sec 241/242 needs to be used more often as well.

I get accused of being an anarchist, nothing could be further from the truth. I want a smaller, more rational, code of laws that punish "real damage done" type crimes and to have those laws strictly enforced.

Having a million laws on the books makes real crimes like treason seem lesser by comparison.

Just my unsolicited dos centavos...

No because treason is defined in out Constitution. While laws against sedition come and go, treason (aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime) has never been “repealed” from the Constitution.

Just because Jimmy Carter was unwilling to prosecute the traitors who betrayed American in Vietnam in support of the North Vietnamese Communists (Jane Fonda, the Weather Underground, the Yippies, and others who conspired to stage riots in the streets, burn armories, pledge support to the Viet Cong, assassinate police and congressmen...), does not mean that the crime has become meaningless.

We had traitors in this war too. Nadil Hassan at Ft. Hood was a traitor and he was enabled by a fifth column in our US military who empowered him in the name of political correctness even though they KNEW he was communicating with Al Qaeda and making jihadist death threats against non-muslims.

It hasn’t been used or incorporated enough.
Otherwise our nation would be familiar with it because 3/4 of our congress and the resident in the White House would have been tried and removed for committing it.
