Twinkie diet helps nutrition professor lose 27 pounds

(CNN) -- Twinkies. Nutty bars. Powdered donuts.

For 10 weeks, Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate one of these sugary cakelets every three hours, instead of meals. To add variety in his steady stream of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, Haub munched on Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos, too.

His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most -- not the nutritional value of the food.

The premise held up: On his "convenience store diet," he shed 27 pounds in two months.

For a class project, Haub limited himself to less than 1,800 calories a day. A man of Haub's pre-dieting size usually consumes about 2,600 calories daily. So he followed a basic principle of weight loss: He consumed significantly fewer calories than he burned.

His body mass index went from 28.8, considered overweight, to 24.9, which is normal. He now weighs 174 pounds.

That diagram looks eerily similar to the one of ObamaCare. :)

It is actually called the scientif method to make and test a hypothesis.

Many of us have thought it was intuitive but never proven.

If others can replicate his results then you have something that is a scientific fact as opposed to just a theory.

“If others can replicate his results then you have something that is a scientific fact as opposed to just a theory.”

Some things are a given, even in the scientific method. Do you really need to stick a needle in the eye of 10 subjects to prove it will hurt them?

“Remember we’re in an environment now where cities are banning transfats selling meals with “too many” calories and toys. There’s a DEFINITE need to demonstrate this simple concept in as many ways as possible. “

And your point is rock solid. I take back my scoffing at this. The left doesn’t think in a linear fashion, and they are indeed trying to convince people that some foods are just plain evil.

If you control your intake, you can eat a wide variety of food and be ok.

Thanks for pointing out where this study really fits.

Yeah, my son a Navy Captain, goes through this pain when he needs to make weight at his physical.

He eats bacon and sausage and ham and deer for breakfast.

He would kill for a slice of pizza, or piece of cake.

Yeah, except the one I showed has actual evidentiary support and shows real phenomena - while the 0bamacare chart is fantasy built upon delusion based upon wishful thinking!

if i want to lose weight w/o putting in the effort to burn more calories, i simply stop eating after 6 p.m... i lose the weight slowly but surely... for the most part, i do try to workout on a regular basis to maintain my figure...

Has there ever been a food safety recall for Twinkies?

So far 49 posts but little to no mention of exercize.

And Americans grow fatter by the minute, eating too many CALORIES, and getting too little exercize.

I don’t want the government to do anything about it.

Each person should be completely “free to choose,” as Milton Friedman said.

Define hurt.

Inserting a needle into an eyeball doesn’t need to cause injury.

Hey, words have meanings!

Additionally, at one time it was an obvious given that the world was flat and that the sun circled the Earth and that man could not travle 60 mph or ever ever run a 4 min milie.

My hero! :') Thanks Immerito. BTW, I have never eaten a Twinkie, so I won't be trying this diet. ;')
