Vanity: Need help with FR searching

I am trying to locate some posts I made in Oct/Nov '08.

Is there an efficient way to do this? I have never managed to figure out FR's search function, and there doesn't seem to be any help info for it.

Use an external web search engine, but tell it to limit the results to “site:www.freerepublic.com” or whatever the appropriate syntax is.

Won’t be perfect, but it’ll help.

I almost never find anything using FR search. I think it hates me.

Go to the search box. Type in YOUR screen name and then in the pick list box choose USERS. It will pull all your posts starting from this one. Then just go to the bottom of the page and do next page until you get to 2008.

That's what I do ... an 'advanced' search on Google.

Click on your name, which will take you to your FR page. Click on ‘In Forum’. You will have to page through to get to your older posts (at the bottom of each page click on ‘next page’). It starts with the most current.

Google will help sometimes. What topic/thread are you searching for?

You are not alone - IMO the FR search is worthless.

Try a keyword search. You might get lucky and stumble across something. Also, perhaps if you might remember another poster who may have an interest in the topic , they may have something bookmarked. Try some of the ping list holders. Blessed are the ping masters as they have lists of posters who may be able to provide guidance.

We should be thankful that JR has a forum which archives EVERYTHING. Don’t know how expensive it is to keep all our comments and posts - but I have no problem with the SEARCH function (and I can’t even post photos;).
