A Los Angeles judge has sentenced former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle to two years in prison and given credit for 292 days of time already served in jail. Someone in Oscar Grant's family said "no surprise here" after the sentence was read. Grant's family was visibly upset when the sentence was read.
1:10 p.m.
In downtown Oakland, about a couple dozen people have gathered outside City Hall.
"My reaction is visible,'' said Cat Brooks as she cried and stomped her feet. "This country has a history of young men of color being murdered by police. The anger of the people who are coming to this rally today is righteous. People are also repeatedly yelling "burn baby burn" and "(Expletive) the police" Alameda County Sheriff's deputies are outside monitoring the crowd.

While he was on the ground cursing, struggling, and still trying to get back up.DO NOT join the whitewash camp on the left in pretending that the kid had no part in the matter. Had all gone "by the book" he'd have still gotten himself GOOD and Tazed; probably multiple times.
No, things DIDN'T go "by the book"; they went tragically wrong, and Mehserle made a horrible, irreversible error.
But regardless of that error, it remains a fact for the annals of history, that the belligerent behavior of the deceased as he actively resisted arrest was a primary factor in his untimely, unintended demise.

Stores are boarding up windows.
Protesters are chanting “Burn Baby Burn” and “F*ck the Police”.
