He was, also, awesome in The Longest Day.

I loved that show. I still remember the episode starring Wm Shatner as a private eye with a Texas drawl

He was in two movies which were great entertainment. He played opposite Charles Bronson and an all star cast in Battle of the Bulge, and as Henry Fonda’s son in Spencer’s Mountain.

So sad, my childhood was made better by watching shows like this. Hawaii Five 0, Mannix, starsky and Hutch, Rockford Files what great entertainment from that era

As a side McArthur’s role I will always remember was as ‘Preacher’ in the underrated film Hang ‘em High.

Must’ve seen the pilot of the relaunched series and dropped dead on the spot.

"Book him, Danno."

One of the great lines in the history of television.

Only 72? Dang.

They really don’t make’em like 5-0 any more.

RIP Danno

Only 72? That seems far too young these days.

He had a great one-liner (among others) in the closing scene of "The Bedford Incident". They're tracking a Russian sub and Richard Widmark says, "Well, if they fire one, I'll fire one." MacArthur, who is manning the anti-sub rocket launch board says "Fire One!" and presses the button. oops.

My favorite James MacArthur movie, The Bedford Incident. One of my ‘must watch again and again’ movies.

Happens to be my favorite Richard Widmark movie also.

What memories this brings—especially of my mother who died a couple of years ago. She went off to a Bible Institute without having a high school diploma, and the school said she could do both by going to college by day and high school at night school classes. She had to walk by the Hayes house on the way to her classes, and sometimes saw James—elementary school age then. A couple of times she even saw Helen Hayes.
Later, every time she saw him on TV, she would mention how he had grown up to be such a nice man.
