Addressing Climate Change Maryland’s Commission on Climate Change, created by Executive Order in 2007,

has concluded that our State would see significant economic and environmental benefits from taking early, immediate actions to reduce global warming pollution.

With more than 3,000 miles of shoreline, Maryland is the fourth most vulnerable state in the nation to the effects of climate change and rising sea levels.

Scientists worldwide agree that early carbon reductions of at least 25 percent are necessary to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Welcome

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is the first mandatory, market-based effort in the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ten Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states have capped and will reduce CO2 emissions from the power sector 10% by 2018.

States sell nearly all emission allowances through auctions and invest proceeds in consumer benefits: energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other clean energy technologies. RGGI is spurring innovation in the clean energy economy and creating green jobs in each state.

This website provides a portal for official user platforms, state applications, and materials for participants in RGGI, as well as current information about the status of RGGI auctions and state rules.

Countdown to Auction 10 December 01, 2010:

RGGI Inc. is a nonprofit corporation created to provide technical and administrative services to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative CO2 budget trading programs of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Maryland has 3,000 miles of shoreline? Perhaps if you count every little nook and cranny - but a pretty stupid statement in realistic terms, IMO.

No. Whatever makes you ask that? I just don’t think Maryland has 3,000+ miles of coastline. At least it didn’t when I lived there many years ago. Has there been some rezoning I missed so that it extends from Maine to Florida these days?

I sent the link with my comments of course to Ehrlich’s facebook campaign. He needs to pick this up and beat OweMalley over the head with his executive order for this!

I’ve written here before about the importance of Executive Order 13514, in which President Obama is pushing our government to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20%, to design and build nothing but zero-energy buildings by 2030, and to think across its entire supply chain about how to promote and to embody sustainability.

Interesting. We have a blizzard going on outside and they wouldn't even be able to huddle around the CFL lightbulbs to keep warm....

I built seawalls there when I was much younger—every nook and cranny counts. You might want to get a map with more resolution and gain some appreciation for just how many nooks and crannies there are.

Yes, that was my original statement - if you count every nook and cranny, it may add up to 3,000 miles.

But as regards “the danger of rising sea levels,” I’d look at an envelope line. Reduce the length by 90%... But this is really just off the cuff - I will defer to superior knowledge and experience.

No they don’t.

Man-made global warming is barely an hypothesis. It is far from reaching the status of scientific law. Did the author just choose to ignor the resignation of a senior scientist over this matter just last week?
