(AP) -- An elderly Oklahoma man landed himself in jail after using bolt cutters to break his prized pooch from the pound.

Instead of paying a $100 fine for not having his poodle on a leash, 73-year-old Edwin Fry of Hydro decided to bust Buddy Tough out. Authorities say Fry drove his lawnmower to the city pound Oct. 13 and broke into the cage with bolt cutters. The pair were intercepted by police.

From what I read about this story, the surrounding community was pleased.

That's the dirtiest damn story I've hear in my life.

Kill a man's dog while he's in jail.

Why are you sad? The dog was a nuisance, and the old man was in jail.

That’s just sick. Someone at the pound needs a good pounding, then have to wear a sign saying “pet killer” down on the interstate for month or two, and then pay to get the man a new dog along with every vet bill the dog needs for life. And steaks. And treats - the good ones. And a nice dog bed. And...

see #10 for more info...I agree and many other agree that it was uncalled for considering this is a very small town and everyone knew where the old man was. Plus, it was a poodle!

Killed his dog while he was in jail...that dog was probably the only thing a 73 year old had...what a sick society we live in...I’m at a loss for words to express how angry this makes me.

“Officer Chris Chancellor told The Oklahoman newspaper that police had received numerous complaints about Buddy Tough, who had been in the pound before”

That’s what they say. Sorry. I’d like to see all of the complaint’s.

Chancellor said there were numerous complaints about Fry's dog. One woman complained Buddy Tough was coming to her house and causing a ruckus with her dogs.

In a separate incident, a senior fell and injured herself trying to get Buddy Tough off her porch one night. After that, a resident caught the dog and brought him to the police station, he said.

Buddy Tough had already been in the city pound once before. That time, Fry paid the $50 fine and had him released.

If the dog had gotten shot by a private citizen, you would've been calling the shooter a hero.

The poodle apparently didn’t kill or maim anyone. Why did they kill it when it wasn’t slated for euthanasia the first time it was picked up?

So lets see.

Neighbour *****es about dog and sends him to the pound. Poor man doesn’t have the hundred dollars needed to get the dog out of the pound.

Tries to break the dog out of the pound and gets arrested. Then they kill his dog while he’s in jail.

Far as I’m concerned the neighbour is the one responsible for the entire thing. The neighbour is absolute scum for putting this man through hell.

Here’s a conservative idea for you: personal responsibility. If your local jurisdiction does not allow dogs to run loose, guess what?
