William Seward criticizes the pro-slavery policies of the Democratic Party
Grand Old Partisan ^ | October 25, 2010 | Michael Zak

Posted on 10/25/2010 7:28:30 AM PDT by Michael Zak

On this day in 1859, Senator William Seward (R-NY) said:

"The Democratic party is inextricably committed to the designs of the slaveholders... The history of the Democratic Party commits it to the policy of slavery. It has been the Democratic Party, and no other agency, which has carried that policy up to its present alarming culmination... Such is the Democratic Party... The government of the United States, under the conduct of the Democratic Party, has been all that time surrendering one plain and castle after another to slavery."

The more things change...

I see that you’re at it again, Michael. You can’t take a shot at democrats without taking a shot at the South, can you.

Was that last post too much for you Mikie?

I repeat;

No one here, especially me, and no one I have read, has EVER said that the Republican Party should be equated “with racism, slavery and the Confederacy.”

If you are so concerned about this, why do you PM everyone on both sides of the issue to start the insults? It puts it out on the web higher in the rankings, with your name and blog right up on top! Coincidence?

No answer, huh, smart guy?

Get used to this question, Mikie, you will get it a lot. And remember, I have your PM’s to me to prove it.

Funny how most blacks are now Democrats. I guess they like the freebies and handouts. In case you haven’t noticed, things have changed. The South is now red, the North is mostly blue.

It was his fort. Well, the property of the U.S. government anyway.

With that thought, picture the poor farmer that owned their property, that had his home & barn torched, neighbors killed, women raped, etc. Just for believing in that revolutionary concept of " Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed ..."

I'm sure you're going to argue that your beloved fedzilla owned their farms too......

It appears that Zak is intent to alienate the Southern Republican base. I wonder if he realizes that without the South, the Republican Party would never win another election? Do you realize that, Zak? Perhaps Zak doesn't want us Rebs in 'his' party. Is that right, Zak?

Perhaps the South would be better served to form another party. One that isn't embarrassed by the Confederate flag or that doesn't insist that our ancestors are all traitors. The Republican party is on the cusp of losing the most solid conservative in the Senate as it is; Jim DeMint. Would that make you happy, Zak?

I’m guessing the answer is that he doesn’t care as long as he makes a few bucks off his blog pimping here.

He and his ilk will be gone soon anyway, when we once again have a conservative party.

Let the Ron Paul Revolution begin! /s

And anyone that disagrees with him, he calls a “Democratic troll.” Maybe he protests too much? This is kind of like having David Brooks on the board, ranting about how much he bleeds for the republican party. Thanks, but you can go now, David. You too, Mikie.

True conservatives support states rights decency, freedom and the United States of America over FedGov™ worship.

No, they sent the U.S. navy to enforce the Constitution.

Tell which article and section of the Constitution makes state secession unconstitutional/illegal? I missed that part...

I would call supporters of a 60-70 percent combined tax rate (all taxes that we pay combined), slavery supporters.
