I’d say find a 20 year old Maytag, fix anything that’s wrong, and keep on washing. That’s what we have.

The new stuff seems troublesome as all getout.
Both my daughters have the new high tech front loaders and keep the repair guy in Porsche payments.
Computers and water seems like a bad combo

LOL! Too true. The new fancy ones cost an arm and a leg to fix I have heard.

“Computers and water seems like a bad combo.”

God help us if they are running Windows 7.

The Whirlpool top loader had the new low water, low power consumption, no agitator to beat up clothers so it was mostly mechanical.

The washboard is looking like an option. The local laundry mat is in a good neighborhood but there always seems to be drunks and homeless looking for $1. Maybe I should bring a metal tub and washboard and put them to work. Sad in this economy.

I have a 25 year old Maytag. Moved it across the country. Stored it for 10 years when we had a built-in. Plugged it in 12 years ago when we moved here and it’s plugged along like it was NEW. I have not fixed one thing. I highly recommend Maytag.

You know, that’s my thought as well. Right now, the house I’m renting has older models with a few bells and whistles such as load size and several choices for drying. That seems fine to me.

When I buy a new washer/dryer, I’m going to opt for a standard top loader. I love the look of the new appliances, but from what I hear, they need a lot of repair. I expect appliances to last like my mother’s old Kenmores - bought for her wedding in 1952 and lasted until I went to college in the ‘70’s. Actually, they were still good, she just wanted something new. I can’t imagine turning on new machine and find it doesn’t work because the complicated machinery/computers are temperamental. To heck with that, just paint my standard model a nice red or blue and I’m there.

Nas has good point. That said I upgraded (from a 10 year old Sears) to a four year old machine that has the high speed spin. In three months just the wife and I have saved about $75 on drying the clothes. The high speed spin is a real advantage.
