Sorry to post a vanity. I have been shopping for washers and possibly a dryer. The utility room is only 52" wide. The prior owner had found a 25" Whirlpool washer and 26" GE dryer. The dryer still works. I would like to get feedback from others.
We got them earlier this year after our 10 year old Kenmore washer and dryer flogged our clothes.
No problems so far...
My wife wanted the LG washer and dryer with the steam options. We’ve never used it on either, don’t waste your money on that feature.
Really, I bought my pedestals on Ebay and saved a bundle. Don’t buy them in the store, it’s unarmed robbery.
Yes it’s German and it’s a tank of a washing machine like you’d expect a German machine to be. Good luck shopping.
Speaking for myself, I have had my LG Tromm washer+ dryer for just over 3 years. They are very quiet and very efficient. Love them. Even though it's only three years so far, they have performed flawlessly.
A service guy told me the LG really stands for Lifes not so good..... PS most of the front loaders can be stacked
If you do get a front-loader, seriously consider switching to a powder detergent. It really makes a difference to the whole “front-loader funk” issue, as the bacteria will eat remnants of the liquid detergent and breed.
Thanks for the powerdered (HE) detergent tip. I was pricing detergent and looking at the stuff on that aisle. Powdered detergent has been becoming scarce then I saw a comeback with this HE detergent.
I recall a FR’er here saying wipe it down with vinegar too. It seems like vinegar works on everything. When I was little - it was about all you had for sunburns.
Thanks for the tip. The Samsung’s are on sale.
“A service guy told me the LG really stands for Lifes not so good.....”
A lady I know had one of their refrigs and she has had problems.
There is a product called Aafresh which is really good too. At 30 cycles run I toss one in and run the machine on hot and things are cleaned out and stays fresh.
I just received a call from a very polite man working for a Sears customer satisfaction group. He saw things my way and will be sending out the rebate I was expecting. Aside from having to write to the Sears CEO in order to get satisfaction, I am now a happy camper and will continue doing business with Sears.
Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet is a manager at Sears Optical (not owned by Sears, but by Luxottica of Italy) which means I get to know more about Sears than I really want to.
I know that I might be late on this thread but omg I love my Samsung. I got lucky and found one that was originally $1200 that a Dr wife bought and brought back after a week because it wasn’t red. I got it for $550 I love it. Did I mention that I love it. I researched for a long time to figure out what brand to get and I scored big time with the Samsung.
It will do an outrageously large load of clothes, in fact I have a queen sized feather bed that I wash in it. Spins them to just barely damp and with the vibration reduction thingie, awesome. I never hear it work till it chimes done.
I do use a liquid softener and add a couple tablespoons of vinegar to it when I do whites. Leave the door open or at least ajar and you will not have the smell problem.
I have had it 2 years this month washing a minimum of 10 loads a week with no problems at all.
I got mine at Sears but look in all the stores in the scratch and dent section it is worth the money.
Thanks. I have seen a lot of reviews and people really like them. 10 loads a week is a workout. I will search around. Lowes had a Samsung on sale for $539.
What does _______ think of Luxottica’s management in Italia?
The government has required that washers use less water and no warm or hot water rinses.
That is right, the government.
Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool Corp.
The Neptune washer that nearly destroyed Maytag Corp. was made for them in Korea, by Samsung. It was a horror show.
The “stinky clothes” that people talk about was a common problem with the early high efficiency front loaders because they are sealed tight. They would get mildew and mold growth.
In most of today’s front loaders those problems have been resolved. It is still advisable to leave the door ajar when the machine is not in use so it will dry out. Ours has a fan that blows air through it after a cycle but we still leave the door loose just to be sure.
We use a Maytag 4.5 Cu Ft. front loader that has been spectacular. No bad odor, no trouble of any kind. Uses very very little water and the clothes are cleaner than our old top loader left them, and they don’t seem to get “worn down” by the washer. You really notice when you see that there is very little lint in the dryer filter when you dry the clothes. (Which dry much faster and cheaper since the front loader extracts more water)
The Maytag we have was made in Germany. Whirlpool bought a German Co. that had many years of front loader experience and have thus avoided the pitfalls of other front load makers.
We would buy another one without hesitation.
Thanks. I will look on the back to see if they say Made In Germany. Does it say made in Germany?
The one I was going to buy was a (hybrid) top loader that was HE with no agitator by Whirlpool. It would not fit. It had mainly electro mechanical for reliability but it was low water and low electricity usage.
So I probably need a Front Loader stack.
Sears has a Maytag 2000 stack for $479 each or a Whirlpool Duet stack for the same price each.
The Samsung is $539 and $599 for the dryer. The Bosch stuff is too much. The Electrolux stuff is good, expensive and the practice sharia in their St Paul Minn factory so I will not buy them or GE.
Daewood is supposedly junk. Frigidaire so so. LG overpriced and aka Life’s No So Good.
German Miele stuff is great but expensive.
Sears Optical is headquartered in Mason, Ohio. Luxottica is the parent company that she really doesn’t deal with much.
“Does it say made in Germany?”
Yes. It is on the little white label right inside the door. You don’t need to look in back.
I even found out where the machine is made. It is made by a now Whirlpool owned subsidiary that is called Bauknecht.
Their website is here: http://www.bauknecht.de
A related article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/17/business/worldbusiness/17iht-whirl.html
BTW:
The article I linked to was from 2005, when Maytag was still independent. Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool, and they no longer source machines from Samsung.
The part about Whirlpool is applicable to the Maytags and Whirlpools of today.
Thanks. It looks like they bought Philips washing machines business. Philips is Dutch but the factory is in Germany. I will need to check. The NY Slimes article said the cheaper ones may be made in Mexico.
