My friend just got her first assignment for her "ETHICS" class...
What is the difference between a Muslim and an Arab?
I know we can come up with the perfect answer....
how does the question relate to ethics ?
■Explain the difference between Muslim and Arab.
■According to research and news reports within the past 2 years, what are some of the changes the United states has made to policies concerning the treatment of Muslim and Arab members of society?
■List two to three characteristics of "Orientalism". ...
What is the difference between a Muslim and an Arab?
From the Arab point of view: religious versus ethnic.
From the Muslim point of view: human being versus slave animal.
Huh? One’s a religion, one’s a nationality.
Hildy - if your friend has an assignment for school, he/she needs to do their own research. There is plenty out there so it should be very simple.
I do understand the ethics issue - it has to do with multiculturalism.
Muslim = An adherent of the faith of Islam
Arab = The “ethnicity” of those from or desended from the Arabian Peninsula
That’s a stupid question for an ethics class, since it’s a historico-linguistic question: an Arab is someone who speaks Arabic, while a Muslim is a religious follower of Mohammad. There are Christian Arabs, and Chinese Muslims; what does any of this have to do with ethics?
Not really to do with nations since Yemen and Oman are also Arabs, not just Saudi’s
Arab is a place, Muslim is a religion.
Example: He is a Mormon from Utah; or Amish from PA; or there are many Catholics in Louisiana.
The dominate religion in the Middle Eastern Arab countries is Muslim.
The class is being set up and being taught a lesson about learning beyond our boundries as white imperialist conservaative racists who don’t know our elbows from first base. Some leftist is getting her jollies making up these questions.
NO, you misunderstand...I’m not doing her homework for her...She’s one of us...I just want to show her some funny answers..she doesn’t even know I’m doing this. I just think the questions show where the professor is coming from. I actually think the assignment is already done.
The bucket.
A Muslim is not tied to any country.
Jihad is a full time job and being a constructive citizen takes too much time away from killing non-Muslims.
Ah, I see.
Orientalism: the justification for the academic affirmative action of establishing Arab Studies Departments, just like the Black, Latino, Women, and Queer Studies professors have. Officially, it’s a branch of “post-colonial studies.”
Tell your friend to change to an actual school, and run away from the indoctrination factory.
Arab describes the region one comes from both geographically and ethnically, Muslim describes a belief system.
From an ethics standpoint, the key difference is that the latter is a choice and is variable while the former is simply a statement of fact that one doesn’t have a choice over.
Religion and political philosophy and ethnicity.
■According to research and news reports within the past 2 years, what are some of the changes the United states has made to policies concerning the treatment of Muslim and Arab members of society?
We have made them yet another victim group in our pantheon. They now qualify for special rights and special languaage. They are to be treated with utmost political correctness a nd care.
■List two to three characteristics of "Orientalism". ...
OOOOOH. Orientalism is a BAD word in the PC world. This is a SET UP question. So the smart money would talk aabout how oriental as a term has been banished from PC society.
The chick who wants an F just pastes in a picture of Charlie Chan. Is your consciousness raised yet? In an ethical manner?
STUPID and uneducated teachers or professors like this are NOT worth the tuition colleges that employ these dimwits charge.
I actually had an atheist nazi, a real one, as my prof in ethics who tried to flunk me for not agreeing with him that humans didn’t have souls.
Didn’t help that I was Jewish either,
I would suggest she approach it from a woman’s perspective.
Might be able to show the flaws in a politically correct way.
