LOS ANGELES (AP) Kanye West told an audience at a screening of his film, "Runaway," that he thought about killing himself, but now feels a responsibility to make a meaningful contribution to pop culture and art.
Describing himself as a pop icon and "soldier for culture," West told the crowd "there were times that I contemplated suicide." However, he said, "I will not give up on life again."
"There's so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard" as loudly as his, West said Monday. "I do it for them."
West, who didn't say when he had considered suicide...

great episode
Oh.
Talk is cheap all he wants is sympathy frankly I’d have more respect for him if he did it :)
Obviously he's a political leftist and he has a deeply obnoxious personality.
Quite a few musicians and record producers fit that bill.
However, he and the Neptunes are the two production groups who transitioned mainstream hip hop music production from its previous paradigm of the tired recycling of old soul records/Timbaland-style minimalism.
Via his production work on The Blueprint he basically gave hip hop another decade of life.
You can love him or hate him for that accomplishment, but there it is.
Suicide was a good career move for Cobain. I don’t think he had anything else going for him besides the “angry young man” schtick, so he went out on top rather than slowly decline into obscurity.
Bush’s fault.
That's because you run up on stage and grab their mics, you d*ck.
Leaving satisfied...
He’s never said a thing that I can understand.

5*****! Obviously the winning post on this thread.
Wish he had some balls and would do more than consider it!
He was extremely close to his mother, to the point of her basically running his life - hence his temptation to commit suicide after her death. See Alexander McQueen.
Her death resulted in his almost-immediate breakup from his long-time fiancee. The abruptness made her seem like no-longer-necessary window dressing.
He clearly has had problems with alcohol and it seems to be the kind of alcoholism associated with drinking alone, not just all-night partying.
He was the first major hip hop personality to vocally support homosexual legislation.
He has a 20 year old tall blond college kid with the improbable name of Cassius Clay (the kid is a descendant of the abolitionist Cassius Clay after whom Muhammad Ali's parents named him) who travels everywhere with him and who is his "personal stylist."
Oh now wouldn’t THAT be a monumental loss!!!
It’s from Getty Images, which is also verboten.
I was just being snarky. I don’t really know anything about him. Well, I do now, but not when I made the post. :-)
